Configuration Overrises - An Old Question?

In the overrides selection of the "Configuration." There is a selection "Disable UI Animations."

As long I can remember I have never bothered to untick this one?

To this day I still donot know the purpose of this box.

Could someone explain to me what this is for?

I have been involved with SOH since March,2008 and thought it about time I asked?

Disabling it eliminates the animated pilot standing next to the aircraft in the start screen.
