SOH-CM-2024
Hi Folks,
Yes another....

This time it represents a MkIV Catalina of 210 Sqn CC as flown by F.O John Cruickshank in July 1944 who earned a VC for his actions in both sinking U361 and being badly injured, but then getting his ac and crew safely back to Sullom Voe.

He is the sole living person who received a VC during WWII, aged 98yrs.

Cheers

Shessi

Thank you Mark

158 views & not one comment? Wow, we have become a "community of consumers" haven't we...

I for one appreciate the work, & admire the focus on a remarkable individual. :encouragement::loyal:

Would we respond in the same way, given the circumstances...:icon_question:

Hi John,
Much appreciate the response and comments.

I'm not that proud (ha!), so I thought people may be fed up with Cats or water craft..., but I've just seen that 60 odd people have DL'd it!! Any feed back, even if it is just critical, is good.

Yes, agreed about Mr Cruickshank....does make you think, and all at the tender age of 24yrs old.

Cheers

Always, many thanks. Never enough Catalina's, or flying boats of any sort, especially those with stories, such as this one.

I'm still to download it, but it will, of course, join my collection.

Thanks, Shessi, for keeping our 15 year old sim alive. :applause::applause:

I'm certainly enjoying these interesting versions of the Catalinas!

PB2B-2 Catalina VI "Frigate Bird II" VH-ASA might be an interesting subject for a
slight model re-work and repaint, or at least a PBY-5 repaint.

The Catalina "Frigate Bird II" was made by Boeing Aircraft of Canada Limited at
Vancouver, Canada in 1944. It flew on the pioneering first flight Australia to
Chile and return in March 1951. "Frigate Bird II" was piloted by pioneering
aviator Sir Patrick Gordon Taylor.

The PB2B-2 was the Boeing Canada built version of the PBY-5 but with the taller
fin of the PBN-1 Nomad. 67 were built during WWII, with most supplied to the RAF
as the Catalina VI.

Hi llanning,
Yes, I intend (eventually, and no time scale!) I want to do a late war PBY5A/VI/PB2B-2, a civillian PBY5A and a few others....so there will be, a cat for all seasons! ;)

Are there any submarines out there for our patrols?

There's a Milkchuk U boat scenery already in library, (by Shessi no less), it's not easy to find in sim, even when you know where it is.... what we need is a virtual enigma decrypt updating the position!

Ttfn

Also a 'flyable/driveable' one?
It will be great for us here in South Africa to try find a sub around our coast.
