Continental Airlines Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 Crashes in Upstate NY

horrible...

From what some were saying, the possibility exists it could have been ice, but if the engines sounded like they were sputtering, they could have actually ran out of fuel.

I live about half an hour from the crash site. The weather last night was bad.....gusting winds up to 50 mph, ice and snow mixed with hail. It was either wind shear or icing, possibly both. They were flying head first into it.

I used to live in Akron and Sanborn, and I know all about the weather in that neck of the woods. A sad outcome for all aboard, and the person killed on the ground.

Don't they have some kind of inflight deicing system? I remember when there was expandable rubber boots on the leading edge of wings that changed over to vented hot air after jet engines were introduced.
