cool game: Oblivion

It's been almost 3 years since i last installed any other games on my PCs besides FS9. I actually buy a ton of games; but i'm doing it purely to support the developers. All these games just sit in their original box, still wrapped, on the shelf (great for last minute b-day gifts).

However, i recently bought a new laptop that can pretty handle everything you throw at it. So i installed a game i bought 3 years ago called Oblivion. I'm very impressed with how immersive this game is. It's open community is very similar to FS9. You can basically play this game for a long time due to the thousands of "mods" out there (most are pro level stuff...and all free).

The game also uses HDR lighting; which is very impressive to see in real time. I'm running this game at 1920x1200, all sliders maxed, with a butter smooth fps at around 60+fps.

these shots are taken from my laptop....

That must be a nicely kitted out lappy!

I dare say you've made a nicely kitted out character too. I swear the 360 character creator only allowed you to make ugly beings.

Fallout 3 is worth looking at if you enjoy Oblivion. Same studio, same idea, just in a nuclear wasteland that was once America.

Goodness..

Awesome color and lighting Feng.

Does the game use DirectX? and also, if I might inquire, what laptop is it? (I am going to guess an Alienware).

I remember playing a demo a couple of years ago from Steam. It was by the guys that did Red Box (is it red or orange?). Amazing details! The water was like real water. The boats floating at the shore were animated so real. The DirectX light blume was very realistic..

Incredible work...

Avoid this game at all costs Feng....you have a life and a livelyhood to protect...lol

When I bought it,I was awestruck by the entire game engine and played for 6 days straight on nothing but Microwave Burritos and Pepsi...the developers are evil geniuses and the immersive qualities are apparent fro mthe very first level. It now sits on my game shelf and taunts me daily...lol:ernae:

All that lighting is from the HDR (these are completely un-edited shots). This is the first time i've seen HDR in action, and man, it's so awesome. It works very differently from Bloom, which is basically adding a glow to the geometry. HDR actually calculates how lights hit objects, thus making the entire shot feel so much more realistic. If i turn HDR off, the game feels completely flat, even with Bloom turned on. I think a lot of next-gen games are now using HDR (however, only high-end machines can handle it...it's very CPU/GPU intensive).

The laptop is Alienware's ultra high-end model. The video card alone has 1gig of vram. Pretty crazy. I actually made them install XP on it instead of Vista....haha. So it's running with DirectX 9....but looks just good as DX10 imo.

I can't believe how good this game looks. Just walking around in the forest is beautiful. I've only done 2 quests so far.....the rest of the time just walking around, doing random stuff. The world is huge and there's soooo much stuff to do. The developers have stuffed this game with so much content, it's overwhelming.

and man, the girls sure are hot in this game! haha...

I know what you mean man! This game is beyond addictive. I almost bought Fallout 3 today...but decided not to. I think one drug at a time is enough...haha...

I stayed up till 5am all weekend playing this game....man, hard to put it down. I rarely get addicted to games (besides FS9..hehe). The last one i got hooked on was Diablo II.
