Coromandel Photoscenery Compilation

Has anyone tried this NZ photoscenery ?

I've been waiting to try it out after the recently released Auckland City photoscenery which is great.

I'm getting a problem around the Pauanui Beach (NZUN) area when the sim crashes.

No problems starting from Thames or Whitanga but flying to Pauanui is a no go. Selecting Pauanui in the airport list will only get a partial load before crashing out.

Strange ..... I hope someone can help me please.

Another thing which I can't quite figure is the inclusion of Wanganui (NZWU) in this package. While it says in the readme " ... Wanganui (NZWU), the last of which is just outside the area of photoscenery coverage .... " it is infact 160 miles south of this area, and on the west coast.

Hey, I'm the one that put it together. I haven't had a lot of time for FS lately, so I haven't had time to get a corrected version posted yet.
There are a number of issues with this compilation as it now stands. First, the version of the base photoscenery included is an old version. All versions of the Coromandel scenery had gone missing from all libraries... when I posted this files, all I had at my disposal was an old version from the old Godzone magazine. Since posting it, I have received a newer version that will repair some graphic anomolies.
As released, the Coromandel scenery did not have autogen... that was added later by Ian Warren. It appears that in every version posted of that autogen, there is a bad agn file near Pauanui Beach. I've got that isolated now... when the updated version is posted, there will be a blank tile near Pauanui, but at least it won't crash...

And, as to Wanganui... I included the wrong airfield on accident. Rather than make that sort of mistake again, I simply will limit myself to the 4 phtoscenery airfields on the update. Expect that update posted sometime tomorrow.

Do you know if there's any other photoscenery that will fill in the area between Real New Zealand Tauranga and this Coromandel scenery ?

No there is a small gap between them, but if you have a good texture set like GE PRO you'll hardly notice.
Ephram, if you don't get the autogen sorted, PM me an email address and I'll send you the last version that works.

This is a great compilation package, and an example of how FS allows multiple collaborations: this one is 5-deep in addons to addons.

The one thing that seems to have gone AWOL is Christian Stock's mesh which really is necessary to make it all work properly.
 
Alright, corrections have been uploaded to the same three sites that the original package was sent to! The old files should be replaced with the newer version where possible.

I've fixed the issue with CTDs in the Pauanui area by simply removing the offending AGN file. I must assume that all copies of the original zip that it came from are corrupt since overwriting the files with new ones downloaded from all the various flightsim sites I can find it on hasn't helped. If there is a version of that AGN that works, I'd love to have it so that there won't be any funny autogenless spots in the Coromandel area!

I hope you all love it as much as I do. This is one of my favorite sceneries in all the FS9 world and it gets a lot of flying time...
I'm uploading it now so that this wonderful work doesn't go missing again... (at least two components of this package were utterly missing in the FS world at time of conception - they'd disappeared into the digital deeps. At time of writing, this is the only source on the net for the base photoscenery on which all the other components depend, though Lawrie Roaches NZUN has been re-uploaded by him as a separate file.)

The revised version is a big improvement on the one originally uploaded.

The mesh I have is the free NZ Red Baron 75m mesh , is this the same as Christian Stock's mesh that you mentioned Charl ?

To be honest I don't fly the NZ area in the sim much , my favorite region has always be the Western US & Canada up through to Alaska, but I've had the payware Tauranga ( my home airport ) for a while now, and this Coromandel scenery ( plus Auckland city photoscenery) will mean a few more flights around the home patch.

I grabbed it and installed it - I have no intention of abandoning my lovely FS9, but playing with FSX has delayed its reincarnation.
I was a bit puzzled by Wanganui being involved, but the scenery looked good, although not quite what I expected - probably a layering issue in my current setup. I only had time for a quick look, but essentially no probs. Fortunately I have Christian's 20m Mesh, and Topo, on CD (or DVD) and other goodies from Rob, so I will have a great NZ in both FS9 and FSX.
I will get the update and put up a few screenies - I know I have most of the add-on scenery objects needed, but I need someone to tell me what I am missing, if I am wrong. I did download Lawrie's S-O-L, but I have a horrible feeling it was only on Bigbeast, the flying machine, which suffered a mobo blowout which also banjaxed the HDD.

Pete, the freeware mesh is a bit coarser than the payware 20m version (of course) but certainly better than stock, and the airports should sit OK on it...
I don't see Christian's Simpilot Experience payware mesh anywhere, unfortunately.

Yes, I meant to say Christian appears to have moved on, and I certainly don't blame him...VLC includes its own mesh, ORBX are producing a lot of good stuff, because they have the resources...that's life, I'm afraid.

Wasn't there a NZ Landclass or something from years ago ?

Looking at how Tauranga NZTG has expanded over the last few years with extra hangars , sealed taxiways etc this payware scenery needs updating.

Might be a spare time thing ( if I have any ).

Yes, Christian did a mesh, as well as a landclass package.
Outside the photoreal areas, the landclass is a must for VFR, of course.
They were variously sold as Red Baron Entertainment, and later, Simpilot Experience.

Perhaps if enough people badger Christian, he could be persuaded to make these available somewhere...
