Cost for a new computer???

I am still running FSX on my old WinXP Home Computer, but I know it's usable life is coming to an end in 2015. But, I don't have a clue on how much a new rig is going to cost me to run P3D. Not sure if anything will be salvageable aside from my big Cooler Master HAF tower case and my 27" Viewsonic HDMI monitor. For those of you who are running with the sliders max out, can you PM me on how much I might have to cough up to join this exclusive club. Just wondering if I have to go without food for the rest to the year....:dizzy:

TIA,

Tommy

Tommy,

I was fortunate a few years back to have a friend who helped me put a system together. If you can, or know someone who can build one, you can get a LOT better quality computer system for your money.

I spent about 2K, but you wouldn't have to spend nearly that much. NC

I have an I5 that ran Fsx with lots of stops, oom cranes, ex. Got a new medium priced 2 gig card and it runs p3d beautifully. I still have Fsx on my system but haven't used it after p3d.

just make sure you get the best gpu you can afford.

I second that - most "cheap" offers have some caveat built in where the builder saved money or raised his sales margin.
Ever since I have to do with PCs - which is pretty much from the beginning of pc architecture - I never bought a complete system. Always built it myself. And it's upgraded every year and in a constant change.

I also second Bobs remark about the GPU - with P3D, the GPU definitely has become the bottle neck. See the GTX 970 thread here!

Thanks for the replies.

I normally build my own computers, I just need some guidance in respect to the best combination of parts that work together. Sometimes the best motherboard doesn't necessarily work with the best graphics card. I've budgeted $2,500 USD for computer upgrades in 2015. Since I already have the case (and power supply), and monitor, I'm thinking I should be in the ballpark for a decent computer to run P3D. I'll need a new OS too. Any recommendations? I'm not in a rush to get this done this month or next; I just want to start doing my research now. I'd have a bigger computer budget, but 2015 just happens to be my get those old vintage guitars fixed up ($$$$$$) or sell them off ($) year. Yeah, I've collected too many guitars over the years, but never took the time to really play them. DUH!

Just noticed the SOH fund raising banner at the top of the page.....I'll get that done later on today.

Regards,

Tommy

I'm another one that upgrades my own computer. I started simming with ATI cards, but switched to Nvidia and haven't looked back. The difference to me was remarkable. I just purchased an EVGA GTX 660 3GB (I'm a budget builder) and am amazed at how much smoother P3D is than FSX now. Seattle has always been tough to fly in, but just did a flight in P3D with good frame rates and not one stutter. With your budget you should certainly be able to get a killer rig.
