Could This Be the Most Beautiful Airstrip In the World?

I was perusing some AT-6 Texan vids over at YouTube the other day when I came across this

Mountain Air Country Club is an exclusive resort/community perched on a 4,900 ft ridge in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina that features a 2,800 foot long paved airstrip that rivals some of the famous alpine altiports of Europe, but I think that most would be hard pressed to find a more dramatic or beautiful setting for an airstrip. I wonder if any of the scenery gods can be tempted?

It would be great to have scenery for that airport and some some repaints for Wozza's Texan for FSX to match the ones in the video.

It would be great to have scenery for that airport and some repaints for Wozza's Texan for FS9 to match the ones in the video. I have only seen screen shots of Wozza's FSX Texan, but I love his FS9 Texan/Harvard/Wirraway.

The airstrip is in FS9...just needs some dressing up.

I installed the FS Genesis mesh for the area (all of USA, actually), but it didn't do a whole lot for the experience.

I am truly surprised no one has done this airstrip right in FS9.

Superb video find!

what about all doing what we can to recreate it? theres a Team job on the Tigercat, so why not a Team Job on the Mountain Air Country Club? :ernae:

Thank you for sharing. There are a couple of youtube clips shot from the cockpit in a landing. Quite spectacular

that's because it's a double dog good idea!
I am not a scenery artist,
but would love to watch the process and progress.
heck, I might even get inspired to learn something.
who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

That's a beautiful little airport, nestled right below Mt. Mitchell just outside Burnsville, NC. I have been to it on numerous occasions, especially during my five years of work in Asheville, NC.

Yep, too bad FSGenesis does not do the terrain justice in neither FS9 or FSX. I still have a flight saved starting from there in both sims. That's some of my old backpacking territory, need to go back pne weekend.

I thought I saw a mesh package for the Blue Ridge Mountains on one of the sites...I will have to go looking for it and give it a try. I too was a little let down by the freeware FSGenesis mesh in this area....still a lot better than the stock mesh by a huge factor, but just didn't equal the OOOOOHs and AAAAAHs of other parts covered by the mesh.

This is what Mountain Air 2NC0 looks like with payware FSgenisis Worldwide. This would be tough to fix. What does the default look like?

You must have UT-USA, because the golf course is shown, FSX UT-USA doesn't even show that.

Yes I have UT also but it does not change the elevations and can be shut off easily. FSGenesis can only be shut off by uninstalling as far as I can tell. This makes some areas unusable, but it's a fair compromise overall.
