Creating Transparent Textures

Stuart these are 2 different LSTs. I'm going to guess LST-16 used some sort mat with holes that are triangles during Operation Torch. Than a later LST that used PSP mats. From what I can find it seems that it LST-386 with the PSP deck during Anzio landings for Operation Shingle Jan 1944. That is possible as the left forward cub is lacking the red outlines indicating that the pic was taken after Aug 1943.

This is a very interesting discussion, but raises more questions than answers.

Notice in the photo of LST-16 that Allen posted above, that the tail of the L-4 is raised, with the wheel in a channel. It suggests a very early trial arrangement.

The wiki entry for LST-16 also suggests this vessel was not commissioned until March '43, & it's first operation was Husky (July '43), so the "Torch" star is a real puzzle.

Perhaps LST-16 was used for a trial very soon after first arriving on station in the Med. The wiki entry suggests she only carried 2 x L-4Bs. Given the issue of the raised tail configuration for launch, I'm not sure how this can be achieved in CFS 2 anyway...

... perhaps an "invisible" trolley, attached thru the DP as a weapon, & dropped after launch? IIRC Baldy did some interesting stuff with his German glider/transports...

LST-16 commissioned until March '43 :dizzy: Well this makes thing even more confusing.

The trolley doesn't look like a trolley but more of stand as it attached to the deck.

At the last picture you can see that the shadow on the left aircraft wings shows gratings and some construction beams below. So, the flight deck is in parts transparent.

To get this effect in cfs2 will be very hard, because even if the flight deck transparent parts are transparent from the nearby view, in the farther away view the flight deck transparent parts will disappear or the transparency will be gone. Also, our old flight sim doesn’t support modern texturing, so the holes in the flight deck won’t be visible in the shadow.

The pictures shows that the deck doesn’t show the transparency from pilot’s view, it’s because the gratings are thick may be 3 to 6 cm. in the real live you can see through the gratings only from a top view.
