Cruising about in a Stratoliner

I hadn't flown the JBK Boeing 307 Stratoliner in a while so I loaded it up in Memphis and headed east last night, ending up in Roanoke VA. This afternoon I started it back up and did a shortish flight from Roanoke to Naval Station Norfolk VA. I'd forgotten a few things about flying the Stratoliner, so it's been a somewhat educational experience. Also it's been a long time since I flew into Norfolk in FS, so if it wasn't for the RDF, I'd have been hard pressed to find the airfield on the Navy base. Fun flight in an aircraft that I need to fly more often.

The stratoliner.

I'm beginning to get the impression that you've put enough hours flying that plane to build up a hefty pension.

Actually, most of my hours have been in Milton's Twin Beeches. As much as I like this one, it wasn't until the C-75 flight model came out that I found it flyable.

Made a hop from NavSta Norfolk to Andrews AFB. I've got a promising radio nav scheme going on that I'm testing out, but that's another thread. Good flight and when I got to Andrews, President Truman's VC-118 "The Independence" was parked at the terminal.

Decided to take it on up the coast to New York City and LaGuardia airport. The weather in NYC was a bit sucky, but almost exactly what I've been looking for to test out my ideas on instrument approaches without ILS. I made a couple of minor mistakes, but it worked. Now to test it some more.

Thanks falcon! It's been a while since I saw that and couldn't remember the "rest of the story".
