Dakar Scenery Problem

Hello!
It´s been a while since I posted something here, but real life is just too busy right now..
I started playing around in North Africa recently, and when I installed Tobob´s Dakar scenery I got the following:

d1.jpgd2.jpg

Note the square green areas where there should be water, dark blue water on the island in the left picture, and I think the dark water in the second picture is also wrong.
I put this scenery into a Med install, which I did according to Rami´s guide. Also, the order of the two Dakar scenery folders is as required by the readme.

Any ideas what could be wrong here?

Thanks,
Wolfgang

there's only a slim chance of this being the cause, but did you copy all the color textures from the Scenedb/world/textures folder and paste them into the main CFS2 Texture folder?

Skylane,

How do you have the scenery.cfg set up for your Mediterranean?

Hello Rami!
The scenery.config is set up like you described in your Guide. Then I put in several of Achim's sceneries, and finally the two Dakar folders, which are now on top of the list.

Wolfgang,

I will look at things over the weekend and get back to you quickly.

Hi Rami!

Here´s what my scenery looks like. I already tried deactivating some of the sceneries, as I thought, maybe there are too many. But this didn´t Change anything...

Wolfgang,

Good afternoon! I was a little puzzled on this one, until I went back and looked at the files in the upload compared to what I had. It turns out there was a BIG error in the library package: the land class was not included! :banghead:

I have attached the required file in this post. Please put it into the TB_Dakar\Scenery folder, and then report back if this does not fix it.

I also moved the scenery package back to the front of the library, because I updated the package.

Andrew,
thanks for the file, unfortunately it didn´t solve the problem...
I now believe that it is something completely different, and has nothing to do with the Dakar scenery: The whole African coast south of N22°30´looks like this:

This is how the area around Dakar Looks on the Mission Builder Screen:

And here is where the appearance of the coast changes at N22°30´:

Could it have something to do with Rumba´s mesh and coastlines not extending this far south??

Skylane,

This is how my Dakar looks in Mission Builder...

And I do have coastlines further north. Let me look into why....I think I have all the stock coastlines beginning with "de" and "dw," and this seemed to fix the issue between Dakar and Morocco.

All I can tell you right now is that something you have installed is interfering with Dakar somehow.

Hi Andrew!
I decided to try to solve the problem by starting from scratch and doing a completely new install according to your guide, also downloading the mesh files again, in case I missed some update somewhere.

Now I found something strange: After getting to the point where the water masking files are installed, I compared the picture on page 7 in the guide showing what the files in the scenedb-world-scenery folder should look like to what my folder actually shows.

The picture on the left is from the install guide, the one on the right shows my Folder.

f1.jpg f2.jpg
There are a lot more files shown in your picture than are actually in my folder! The north- and south-bgl files were kept from the stock files, the DEM5 files are the same in my folder and your picture, 24 of them altogether.
I suppose the remaining files named "CST..." are the watermasking files. Of these I have 108, while the folder you pictured contains 193 of them. So apparently I´m missing 85 files...

I just downloaded the "CFS2_Watermasking_01" and "CFS2_Watermasking_02" files from the library about an hour ago, and they contain only the 108 BGL files that I have in my floder now.

Could it be that something went wrong when the files were uploaded to the library, and some of the BGLs are missing?
Maybe this is the cause for my problem with the scenery?

Skylane,

Nope. I will have to update that picture and the guide itself. My count in my current installs are...

Rhumbaflappy watermasks: 76 + 32 = 108 bgl files.

Stock watermasks: 5 .bgl files. (North, South, CST4310M, CST4500M, CST4L10M)

LOD 5: 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 24 .bgl files.

Some of this I have found through trial and error since the guide was published, because I discovered some issues with Polish coastlines in the Gulf of Danzig, as well as lack of coverage at places like Iceland and Jan Mayen.

Rami, I found the solution in your last post! I was missing three of the stock watermask BGLs, CST4310M, CST4500M and CST4L10M.

May I point out a small mistake in your Guide? On page 6, where you explain the installation of the DEM5 mesh, you say:

1) Go to your Scenedb\World\Scenery folder.
2) Delete all the .bgl files except these two files: north.bgl and south.bgl
3) Take all of the .bgl files from the four packs you just downloaded and place them inside your scenedb\world\scenery folder.

Step 2 directs the user to delete everything, except the north and south BGLs, but apparently, these other three BGLs should also be saved.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

I have been following this thread unable to reply because, even if I had the very same problems with texture tiles different than the rest of the scenery, I could be flagged if I remembered what I did to overcame it.

It was almost three years ago and since my memory serves me right :biggrin-new:.... I could not help in any way.

Now Skylane you hit the nail right in the head: I too had missing stock watermasks, since I had previously deleted them. I also had a small hierarchy problem in my scenery.cfg, but it was none of Rami's fault. I simply have a very particular setup with JB's multi-theatre single install. In it every change needs to be planned carefully, since the details are many.

Anyway, the above is exactly what I had to do to enjoy Tobob's astonishing Dakar scenery and I did ever since. Good job Wolfgang! :encouragement:

Cheers!

When I installed Rhumba's watermasks it was prior to Rami's guide, so I followed Rhumba's instructions which were to add them as a scenery layer - quote:

"I would set the priority to be loaded just after ( above in the Scenery Library ) the "Terrain" entry.
These watermasks will override the default watermasking for CFS2. The default watermasking files are located in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2\SCENEDB\world\scenery", and appropriate files may be deactivated... but it is not necessary. Not all the defaults are replaced... only those of the WWII war theatres."

I've found no problems doing this. Here are the first three layers of my MTO scenery.cfg file:

Title=CFS2 World
Description=CFS 2 Scenery data

Kelti, I only discovered it because Rami mentioned those files in his post.

Kdriver, that´s interesting. I´ll try it one of these days, when I have time. I also have a Far East install with Rhumba´s mesh, and there Ceylon still has the square coast, even with these three BGLs now installed. Your method could probably restore the coastline there.

Dombral, great screenshots! I don´t know the flyingboat in the first picture, what type is it?
I´m also interested in the paint scheme of the Hawk 75.

Flyingoat Dakar

The flyingboat is the Late 302 " Cavelier de Cuverville " who discovered the british escadre .
reference "Payakan_Late302.zip" ; texture personnelle .
J'ai en réserve plusieurs peintures d'avions français de la période 1939 1942 pour CFS2 . Si vous etes intéressés je peux les uploader.
