Dam Busters

Got to fooling around with these missions (i.e., Operation Chastise) and can't find the Leigh Light or any bouncing bomb.

I can see a lot of discussion about the Leigh Light, but can't locate it in Warbirds. Was it ever posted?

I don't see any mention of bouncing bombs, though -- is there one?

Thanks.

Which one, Tiger? The one that is included with Operation Chastise, or another one.
And how are they turned on/off??

I must have missed a class somehow.....

DAMBUSTER MISSION

I WAS READING WITH INTEREST OPERATION CHASTISE COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE THIS MISSION IS, IS IT IN THE WARBIRDS ARCHIVE WOULD BE INTERESTE TO KNOW AS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOOK FOR THIS MISSION

GARY

I gather from no mention of it that there is not a bouncing bomb?

I'm not surprised, although I recall a thread somewhere which talked about skip bombing, and wondered if the bouncing bomb had been done up along those lines.

I really like the Lanc, tho; flies nicely.

Thanks all.

A couple of people were actively working on the skip bombs about a year ago. There were a number of problems that could not be solved and the last I recall the project just died on the vine.

Thanks, Lewis11777 for the info. Too bad, it'd make an interesting mission. I wonder if it could be done with a depth charge? Hmmm.

UPDATE: While looking for a depth bomb, I noticed that in the weapons folder there is a depth bomb called Upkeep! Now I suppose it was there all the time, but when I went looking for Upkeep, I could not find it for the life of me. Either I'm getting blind or senile or both, but the questions have been answered, at least. I guess it comes under the heading of finding things you've lost when looking for something else or not looking at all.

Now, to imitate Sinatra's ram and punch a hole in that dam.

Thanks to all for their input!

:wavey:Bombs are differant, Ya gotta zoom in, the first one looks like the real one, but when I run it again and I get the one in second pic. Don't know what happen and why I can't reproduce it, BTW The Lanc is ETO_Lanc_M3_Dam:isadizzy::salute:

bee aware that some of the dll are missing in the weapon AvHistory_gb_DepthBomb_Upkeep they can be copied from the ETO game

Hi Old Tiger,
there are no dll files for the upkeep bomb, I think gosd meant dds files.

just checked the ETO_Lanc_M3_Dam aircrafts xdp file its definately calling for the right weapon. and theres only one loadout listed so its not like you have inadvertantly selected the wrong loadout.

I'm not sure how youre getting a stock torpedo loading.

I did notice in your screen shot that the pylon is not textured, just checked in game and it seems I failed to change the texture name inside the pylon M3D file. the pylon used to call on a specific aircraft texture to get its paintwork, but if you dont have that aircraft in your install then your pylon is not painted.
so I set it up to use its own textures. I have attached the updated M3D file and here. just drop into your pylon folder allow to overwrite. you will need to delete the bdp file (same name as pylon) from your pylon folder.

I would also try deleting the bdp files for both the aircraft and the upkeep weapon and see if this helps.

Also do a search for the file name AvHistory_gb_DepthBomb_Upkeep.M3D and see if you have more than one weapon named up as the upkeep bomb, that the game is possibly calling on. (ie a torpedo model renamed as the upkeep)

Are you flying in ETO or another install of your own making?

EDIT this revised pylon model is for the ETO 1.40 install, if your putting it into another install you'll need the two textures and xdp file that go with it from the ETO.
Lancaster_dam_bom_t.dds
Lancaster_dam_bom_s.dds
upkeep_mount.xdp

Wrong weapon

It is because the m3d file is a torpedo and not the upkeep. There was a mistake made with this file. It happens to me as well. There is a proper upkeep in the weapons folder just forget where.

:ernae:Thanks Rob, I'm flying in ETO 1.40, will do what you suggested and let ya know what happens:salute:

Upkeep

This is what I have found

If you open the m3d (using a hex editor) for the av_history_gb_depthbomb_upkeep, you'll see that it is really the us mk13 torpedo. I have a file called upkeep that is the correct upkeep bomb.

Hi Guys,

I just checked in game, the ETO 1.40 install is working as it should.

If your using the earlier files that were released with the mission files etc then you may have the wrongly named model file and thats why your seeing the torpedo instead of the proper upkeep weapon. (as per Teds explination above).

I have attached the upkeep bomb from my ETO 1.40 install here for those who are seeing the wrong model.
Place this into your weapons folder and allow overwrite if requested.
