HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Jazz composer and pianist Dave Brubeck, whose pioneering style in pieces such as "Take Five" caught listeners' ears with exotic, challenging rhythms, has died. He was 91. :guinness: :guinness:

What a great loss. 'Take Five' still has to rank as one of my personal favorite pieces of all time.

One of the sources for why I love music.
My father used to play a lot of Brubeck's albums on the old RCA, when I was growing up.

Glad he was able to receive a Kennedy Center Honor back in 2009.
 
Couple more for the road. From the PBS Series 'The Blues', piano blues episode hosted by Clint Eastwood.
 
Heard this on the radio on the way into work - they had a nice tribute to him, including interview, and finished off with Take 5.

Another one bites the dust. Been good to have him on board planet earth! Farewell.
 
I was lucky enough as a student in the Sixties to see a wonderful series of jazz concerts in Leicester - Errol Garner, MJQ, Miles, Thelonious, etc.

One of the very finest was Brubeck, with the glorious Paul Desmond. Will never forget it. Thanks Dave.
 
His death is a great loss to the world. I was fortunate enough to see him perform a couple of times at the Playboy Jazz Festival. Interesting how his date of death is also that of another rather famous composer, separated by 221 years - Wolfgang A. Mozart, died 12/5/1791. Mozart was the master of human emotion directly translated into music....Brubeck was the master of jazz composition that broke convention and opened new possibilities.

I made sure all my classes "took five" today in honor of Mr. Brubek. Rest in peace...and thanks for the music. :salute:
