DC3 AIRWAYS ANNOUNCES ITS2021 WORLD RALLY

TheDCA World Rally begins on Saturday October 16, 2021. It is open toall flight sim enthusiasts. DC3 Airways membership is NOT arequirement.
Unfortunately, because MSFS2020 does not yet have a flyable DC3 or C-47 aircraft inits hangar, sim pilots will not be able to use that platform. However, flight descriptions and start up files are included for theother major sims including P3D, X-Plane and FSX.
Theschedule consists of ten flights from around the world, to be flownin a DC3/C-47. The rally will be spread over thirty days giving pilots a three day time frame in which to complete each flight andfile their pirep. More details on when each flight may be flown aregiven in the World Rally Rules section, which can be found athttps://dc3airways.net/wr.The vast majority of navigation is via NDB and VOR navaids, but thereis also a considerable amount of navigation by dead reckoning. Thegoal is to have fun flying a DC3/C-47.
Butto add more challenge, each flight has a calculated flight time thatcan be reached using the correct average climb, cruise, descent andapproach speed. Some flights are more challenging by the inclusion ofspecific weather settings.
Adversewinds and weather are an ever present danger of this form ofnavigation, but help is at hand thanks to the venerable E6-Bcalculator. Professional pilots are well aware of this wonderful tooland how best to use it. If you don't already possess an E6-B, afreeware electronic version is available on the internet and DCA isproviding a link to this valuable utility. If you are serious aboutnavigation, take time to learn how to use this tool and yournavigational accuracy will be extremely rewarding.

Allflight descriptions are prepared in both MS Word and PDF format.Useful jpg images will also be provided to assist pilots with theirpre-flight planning. Pilots may of course use the flight descriptionsas a guide to create your own flight plan, if desired. If you do nothave MS Word, Libre Office Open Source software is an excellent freesubstitute.

This is good news. A bit of a challenge and some fun. I have done a couple of these in the past they fell into a hole after Norm Hancock who used to put them together passed away. Just what I needed at this point in lockdown!

Looking forward to this Event; been out of FlightSim for a few years, and am slowly regaining proficiency with Landings and such. Wasn't aware that Norm Hancock passed away... :sorrow:

Hope to see some old Gooney Bird pilots and old simming pals show up to have some fun!

Alan :encouragement:

I would have loved to join, especially now that vskylabs has released v4 of their DC-3/C-47 for X-Plane 11, but with two puppies, I just don't have the time to fly every 3 days. Right now I am happy I can fly once a week.

Have fun everyone.

I am in on this one. Downloaded the package today and now reviewing the program and flights. Some very interesting and challenging flights in various locations about the world. Going to have an early night and start tomorrow. In the meantime:
Flight 1 starts here at Lilleot in British Columbia.

So far so good they are certainly making it an interesting challenge - this one was down the valleys with cloud above to a little strip hidden in another valley.

Certainly did not expect ballooners to be near the threshold on final!
