De-shining a CFS2 model?

I recall OBIO talking in several posts about removing the shine from a CFS2 model that's being used in FS9 but, what's the name of the utility that's used to do this?

I'm not sure how to go about doing it, I've just heard several members talking about it.
....The model is a G55 Centauro, although the read-me doesn't state who it was made by

OleBoy, I assume it is the G55 by Ignacio Alfredo Medive, from which there are at least two different models available.

One at Simviation and one here at the SOH. Both versions have different texture names however the textures are the same size. So you can use them on both versions, however you should rename the textures in some cases.

When you want change the shine one models I advise you to use this tool: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=4445

You will still need Ivan "Archisoft" Hsu's MDLC117 which is available at Flightsim.com. But this small tool makes the use much easier!

Cheers,

cheers Huub, forgot about olé Shiny, possibly the easiest option, dunno, never tried it. I like to have full control by material, mdlmat for me. I like to have shiny glass on matt planes, :d

I actually got the one from simviation and here. Had a heck of a time getting things figured out so they'd show. That part's all sorted now. But having to rename and edit the config files was a headache..lol. Lesson learned! I'll look into the items you recommend and give it a try. Worse scenario, I'll wipe them off my desk into the trash bin. HA!

Thanks for the help.

A while back I wrote up a tutorial on using Martin Wright's MDLmat to shine, deshine, recolor and transparency adjust the MDL material settings in a aircraft MDL file. Norab took my tutorial and made a very spiffy PDF file out of it...which made the tutorial much easier to read through. The tutorial is in the library under Norab's name.

I like using MDLmat to adjust the specular shine on aircraft because it gives me far more control. And when using MDLC to adjust the specular shine, some models will come out with a pinkish or reddish hue to the shine...which then requires the use of MDLmat to fix. So, just go with MDLmat and adjust the specular shine. Once you do it a couple times, it becomes second nature and you and can adjust a plane's specular shine in a matter of seconds.

OBIO, I remember you were working on that tutorial, I lost track of the topic as it faded away. I think you were busy and didn't get to it as fast as you planned. Something like that. I got the tutorial now. I'll have a read. Maybe test it out. Maybe I can make a neat invisible plane..lol. I'll be sure to back it up just in case. Thank you.

Thanks to you also norab for the PDF.
