"It is with the big sadness that the Embassy of France learns the death of one of the two the last mechanics of the G.C. III "Normandy", mister Gérard Weill.

Gérard Weill was born on March 20th, 1924 in Verdun, in the Meuse.
The beginning of June, 1941, the war having gained Lebanon, Gérard Weill volunteers as first-aid worker at the military hospital " Maurice Rotier " of Beirut.
On March 6th, 1942, Gérard Weill signs for a period of the war a voluntary commitment in the free French Air forces, under roll N 40.509. Affected as mechanic to the base of Rayack raises, he is named a corporal on September 1st.cated.
Having volunteered for the G.C. III "Normandy", he(it) arrives at Ivanovo in Russia on November 29th, 1942 and participle in the first campaign of the unit as assistant-mechanic.
Arrived at the retirement age, Gérard Weill will withdraw in La Rochelle, where he will live until his death arisen on July 15th, 2015, in his 92nd year."
