Debbie takes on Big Mac

Thanks to Debbie I'm sure countless drivers will view the revised McDonald's commercial and reposition their hands to the "8 and 4" positions, thus avoiding needless thumb injuries from airbag inflations.

I'm screwed....I wear a digital watch and have no idea where to put my hands while driving. My hand positions change all the time. Sometimes I am 4 and Flipping the Bird. Sometimes I am 8 and picking my nose. Sometimes I am High Noon and Fruit Punch Gatoraide.

i just put em where i have the most control of said car ... you know the old "whatever works for you" saying n all that :bump:

The Virginia driver's handbook states 8 and 4.

Right and tell that to any true safe driving instructor, not your run-of-the-mill student driver instructor. Position 10 and 2 or 9 and 3 are the most relaxing and easiest to maneuver. Next time you have to jink and punch you elbow into your ribs and loose control, rethink that 8 and 4 position. Don't forget the fools are now running the asylum.

Caz, who has to deal with enough idiots on the road as it is.

I think the 8 and 4 position was born out of concern over injuries incurred during airbag inflation. Back when I learned to drive, airbags were very, very rare... except for those that sat in the back seat and attempted to drive, but I digress. Anyway, I was taught 10 and 2 and I still do that a lot, even though my car does have airbags... both kinds. :173go1:

Hands? I don't need no stinking hands! I use my knees to maintain control of the steering wheel!

And my hands?

Why, I use them for texting on my cell phone, stuffing my mouth with fast food, and searching for that "perfect song" on the radio!!!

I hear you and agree!! I do not feel that I have the same control at 8 and 4 as I do above the horizontal centerline of the wheel. I can see their point about the airbag, but in my car, no matter where I have my hands, there won't be much left anyways! I drive with my left hand at 10-12, shift with the other, and lay it on my leg when I'm not shifting. If I'm playing roadracer on some of our wonderful back roads around here, it's 10-2 and shift when needed!! :)
