Deer Valley in Phoenix is named busiest GA airport in U.S.

Lionheart

SOH-CM-2014
Yep! Our local airport, KDVT or Deer Valley Municipal, appears to be the busiest place in the country presently. No doubt. They have several flight schools, good parking, tons of hangers, fair prices, great weather... (and a good restaurant).

Deer Valley in Phoenix is named busiest GA airport in U.S.
Deer Valley Airport in Phoenix posted 6.8% growth in takeoffs and landings despite the recession. "We are ranked number one for the busiest general aviation airport in the country," said Gary Mascaro, Deer Valley's manager. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the airport had 402,335 takeoffs and landings in 2009. The Arizona Republic (Phoenix) (2/9)

We live in the outskirts of pattern for 7L and 7R. Quite a few planes fly over, from old radials and classics, to students in the blue and white Pipers from the PacWest flight school. Tons of planes aflight here......

I did touch and goes there last time I was in Arizona, taking off from Scottsdale (which I was told was the busiest single runway GA airport in the world - don't know if it still is?) It was at dusk in the Autumn and the most beautiful flying I've ever done!
You are a very lucky man to live there Lionheart :)

I really need to reinstall the Deer Valley scenery you did Lionheart...I think I still have it on my external HD. If not, I am pretty sure it is available on your site. Sounds like the FS9 Tweak of the Day.

Wasn't Van Nuys the busiest GA airport before?

Anyways, congratulations Bill for a bit of world-recordism in your area. :icon_lol:

I now live by Falcon field. Great place. CAF museum there. Saw a bearcat takeoff the other day. Otherwise, lots of interesting things (saw my first Cessna Mustang up close and personal yesterday)

That museum at Falcon Field is awesome. Some great planes there. Usually at least a B-17 taking people for rides on the weekends.

Scottsdale is dead slow these days. I think they may have raised their rentals/landing costs quite a bit and so now people are bringing their private jets to Deer Valley.

I had lunch at Scottsdale perhaps 2 months ago, and I think I saw one plane land in the hour I was there, on a weekday. At KDVT, they are constantly touching down, one after the other. Even the restaurant at Scottsdale closed as it was dead. No business. In their prime, they were the busiest single runway airport. Many in California kept their executive jets at KSDL. Easy enough and cheaper to keep them here and have them sent over to LA / SD to pick up the passengers and do their runs.

I don't know if this one for KSDL is happening or not -

It was a while ago I first saw it mentioned somewhere.

It may take a while longer...I had to drop out of the project due to my wife's illness and transplant, but I may be able to start up again in the next couple of weeks. Kevin is also dealing with medical issues with his wife, and he had a few other projects in the pipeline before he was going to finish up Scottsdale. Hope springs eternal...be patient.

Yep, I recall Van Nuys had the title of busiest GA airport in America for quite a while. I guess now Deer Valley has the spot.

I've operated out of Van Nuys and North Las Vegas. That's two of the busiest in America. Guess I'll someday have to fly over to Deer Valley and tally that one off the list.

Hey Bill, I was close to your neck of the woods several months ago. Had to divert due to enroute icing and landed at Payson Airport. Nice little airport nestled in the mountains south of Flagstaff.

How to put it delicately...

Wouldn't be the result of all the air traffic crossing the border, with the current situation in Mexico.
I know it's affecting Phoenix overall. :kilroy:

Back in the day Deer Valley was the place to go for airshows. Saw Art Scholl there in the 70s. Population growth has pushed Deer Valley off the circuit.
