I know Rami redid this campaign a few years ago but he and I talked about enhanceing it. I have done alot of research on it and have made more missions for it,they fill in some of the blanks. For instance-A lone Betty bombed Hoods Lagoon,Zeros attacked a B-17 as it was landing and the Kittyhawks came to the recuse and after a raid the Zeros stayed around and attacked the airfields and the 75th intercepted them.
The A-24 Raid on Lae-There was actually 2 raids on Lae that day,First John Jackson led a flight of Kittyhawks at dawn.Later that day the A-20s attacked. In the other DOA the attack was mission 5 in mine it's mission 11.

In later missions you will be fighting against just Zeros of the Tinain Kokutai as they do sweeps over the airfields. This Japanese fighter wing was comprised of Aces and took a heavy toll on the 75th.

I figure about 25 missions for this campaign,Some will be rewrites of the older missions, some will be left alone and some will be new.

If interested Speakup,if not don't.Either way these missions will be done even if it's for my own enjoyment and a couple of friends.

Great!

I'm sure interested. I haven't had a chance to fly the original so this is perfect timing. I have just finished up with a couple of other old Campaigns I found hear at SOH. Hope you are having smooth sailing.

Talon:

That was an excellent campaign. I think I died gloriously for the Commonwealth when I played it but enhancements for an updated campaign would be interesting.

My only request is PLEASE keep the campaign goals somewhat reasonable. To me, "You must survive" and
"Destroy 1 Enemy plane" are reasonable. If you get two and then scoot, that's great!! Getting one or two and living to fight another day was probably the REAL way they did it out there considering they had to husband (aircraft) resources in 1942.

I hate to face 30 Zeros and have to shoot 5 down -- that usually means I am just bait !!

Well glh most of the first 14 missions there aren't to many Zeros because of the 75ths attack on Lae. Most of the goals will be 2 or 3 bombers but one mission you have to shoot down 4 bombers. In a couple of missions there is only 1 bomber and that is your goal.
After April 8,1942 you will be facing the Tinian Kokutai which was a Japanese Ace wing. After they arrive the missions get tougher.Thankfully I'm only done to April 5,1942.

Papua New Guinea is probably my favorite area for CFS 2. Someday I'll get there to tour and hopefully while I'm still young enough to walk the Kokoda Track.

In the meantime, I'll enjoy another round of action over the Owen Stanley Mountains, Lae and Port Moresby via the good old time machine of CFS 2.

By the way, I just finished "The Ghost Mountain Boys." A pretty good telling of the effort by the US 32nd Infantry Division in the mountains and jungles of New Guinea.

Talon, please realize this wonderfull idea. CFS2 is an "old love" for me. I return back to the CFS2 every time there is some free time on my hand, and the DOA campaign is one of my all time favourites.

I look forward to the new reincarnation of this true classis.

Thanks for your work, indeed.

Seagull,Thanks for the links but I've already decided on what missions I'll be doing. My last count was 27 or 28 missions,I may add more but not sure.

I found a link about the 75th's CO John Jackson, that's how I found the second Kittyhawk attack on Lae on April 4,1942.I also had to rewrite the firts attack on Lae on March 22,1942.Jackson's aircraft actually attack from the east as the sun was rising. This put the sun behind them and they were harder to detact as they approached.

There will be 2 sets of missions.

1) This set will use both Lindsay Watts P-40E and the FDG P-40E.

With Lindsays your flight will use his P-40 while the AI use the FDG P-40. In my own personal missions I use Lindsays P-40 except for the parked planes.I have no FPS issues.

2) Only the FDG P-40E will be used. I know some people have issues with Lindsays P-40.

Rami will be putting up my Port Morseby ports soon and they will be used in the Campaign.

Since I am on vacation I plan on doing at least 1 mission aday and expect to have the campaign done in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Al,

As I said to you tonight, this has always been one of the most popular stories and campaign themes of CFS2. Given the response in this thread and what we already discussed, anything you can do to flush out more of the story can only be a good thing! :applause:

I didn't quite get to Port Moresby tonight, but tomorrow is another day. :jump:
