Defiant Tactics

What a superb modell that Defiant is. I am in awe!!!

Now..Please help!!!

What tactics are people using with this aircraft.

As pilot I have managed to get my gunner into a shooting position but cannot hold it for long due to defensive fire.

I have flown as gunner and my pilot seems reluctant to close in.

Any suggestions

Thanks

on Defiant tactics

Last night we were test flying these in multiplayer using a custom mission I created.

The enemy interceptors were landing at a nearby airfield not far from our startpoint.

So we took the Defiants on the offensive and went to zoom and boom ground attack.

It worked perfectly well as we blew up many of them on the airfield. It was a blast.

I'm going to test how well this can work assigning them as close air support for the fun of it.

And also, mix these into and around bomber formations which should be fun from both sides.

I have been matching speed and course with my targets a bit low to one side.
Setting the auto pilot and jumping in the turret and blasting away..
I have to correct the aircraft some, but I manage to down plenty of the bad guys, and have flown auto pilot and gotten a couple on bf 109's on my six..

Just takes a bit of practice, ahve done well and havn't been shot down
since I took the time to work out how to fly her..

Also have had success with the AI gunner hitting well as I flew under or infront of bombers in formation..
Not like flying a hurricane or spit but I can see that it does take a bit to learn to
use the Defiant..

First of all Iwould like to thanks HouseHobbit for providing us again with a great serie of 5 missions:salute::ernae::salute:.
I also am looking for the best tatics in flying the Defiant into combat. It seems the only way to get a target is to over fly it using autopilot (ctrl/alt/a) and slow down in order to wait for the target to approch before hitting it with the rear gunner. Not a very aggressive move !!!
I have tried HH suggestion but it is not a very easy to master the proper speed hight and position. How can one keep the a/c in a proper position to get ones work done ? This turns out to be quite a challenge and requires a good working knowledge of the flight sim unless there would be a way to program an approch and stay there once the pray is aquired.
Looking forward to read about your tactics and success .
CHEERS:ernae::ernae:!

I haven't flown this one but have the ETO test ac (not yet released) in QC against 109s. I found that turning in and down made it possible for the gunner to fix on the 109. Alternatively for a frontal attack I also dived and if necessary turned to bring my rear to the 109. Now I haven't tried this recently but I take it that one must somehow get the attacker to the rear and higher; or if it is below to fly inverted! Whatever it takes to get it at 9 - 3 o'clock high!

I Have the ETO missions finished for the Defiant, I'll release them when the Guys at Regs are finished updated the Bird..
They are in two sets,
One for high end computers and one for low end computers..

Hopefully There will be a complete recoverly of everything By Greg..
Praying Here for this..

Here are a few shots, showing how to use the Defiant WELL..

Auto pilot and good formation Flying set up makes the difference..

All with practice can do great..
Just have to get used to a bird that has No forward guns..

Great ideas!!!

How can you set autopilot please?

Thanks

If you didn't change key-mapping: "ctrl-shift-A" toggles the auto-pilot on and off, "F8" brings you to the gunner seat; "F6" back to the pilots seat. Auto-pilot can only be turned on and off as a pilot, not as a gunner......

I some times I think idiots like me should not be allowed near computers...let alone flight sims!!!!!!

Stay on the ground!:wavey:

I use the auto pilot, whenever I go to the turret.
I have found it(defiant) fly's better this way.
Every aircraft is different when it comes to this..
Some do well just by doing the F8, some do better holding course if you go to auto pilot first..
Oh i am a ACE in the Defiant now too..
Got number 7 today, a bf 109..

I just got another Bf 109, trying the(new) sound out..
The AI germans are having a bad time of it..
LOL..
One place you don't want to be is in the sights of the turret...
