Definition of a letdown

why the complaints? I mean we pay for what we get so don't complain lol when its free just do some reasearch and modify it yourself!
Best of luck!
Pete,

'Fur Ball' does get a bad press for doing these repackages but, as modelr points out, he always credits the original author even if he doesn't respect their wishes on repackaging. Ironically, he adds his own conditions on uploading - I wonder if he gets pissed when people ignore them? Some of the flak he gets came from his claim that he invented a revolutionary new alpha channel technique. It seemed to do nothing except make the textures pastel coloured and very shiny, and was easy to reproduce by making the alpha channel whiter (this was FS9) in DXTBmp.

The misdirection of the download libraries does pay a major part in this issue - "FSX Original Aircraft" should refer to an FSX SDK aircraft, not a port.

I'm sure most people are aware by now of my position on breach of copyright, but it's worth re-iterating that copyright applies to both freeware and payware products, not just payware ones. People who upload "converted" packages without the author's consent are breaching copyright law. Yet even people who proclaim to be staunchly against uploading products to warez sites claim that just because the product is FS9 freeware, they should be allowed to do so just because the original author chose not to charge you for their time, effort and skill? Isn't there a lot of a double standard there?

What hacks me off with Mr Rooks(I think it is he) is that he also includes loads of pics of himself, his airport & planes,I dont want to waste my d/l limit on his vanity!

Wait until you see the pics of me in a bikini I'm putting into my uploads now, LOL :monkies::running:

let down is seeing a company coming out with a airplane that's been done a zillion times already instead of doing one thats missing in the sim.

Just ask Piglet about this........
Yeah, I know about this. But as others have said, there's really no way of totally stopping this. And yes some don't ask before hacking my planes, but I rather spend time making planes, than chasing all the Mark Rooks's around.

PS I recently got an email from Rooks, with a pic of a F-15A or C, with the title F-15E Strike Eagle. Some kind of smug self promotion, I guess that's why I got that email. So, feeling a little snotty, I wrote back, pointing out the errors, and got some vague reply about F-15E airfiles with F-15 C models, or somethin' like that, and him stating that he got the origional maker's permission...
Well....who really knows...
To be honest, I have not D/L'd anything for about 2 years now!

That's sad and funny at the same time, wow this guy!:gameoff:

Flightsim gives an interesting explanation of the difference between public domain, freeware, shareware etc for people uploading files.

http://www.flightsim.com/uploads/dev-tips.htm

I think avsim had a policy whereby if the got a complaint from someone that something had breached copyright they would delete the file from the library first and ask questions later. I wonder how other libraries would react if someone, like Piglet for example, complained that they were hosting files which were breaching their copyright.

I never seem to have a problem understanding whether a plane is pure FSX or not, so why do so many people here have that problem ? I suspect you also know, but are just having a winge. Sorry to be provocative guys, but there is too much criticism goes on here, much of which does not create constructive value. The world of flight simming is already taking a nose dive, don't contribute to it.

As you say, there are a few people that do alot of these port over uploads, so I now know that when I see their name, it's a port over. I still download them, check them out (on the ones I like) and give them ago. If I like them, I keep them, if I don't, I delete them.

Having read the 'Read Me' text on many of these, I don't believe they are trying to make out that they built the model themselves (there may be exceptions and I'm sure some one will point some out).

Chill out and enjoy the freedom of what the freeware community has to offer :ernae:

I've tried some of these port overs. Some are good, usually the ones ported over by the original author or someone authorized by the author, others are not very good as they are hacked by unauthorized persons. The ones that really disappoint me are the payware aircraft that are advertised as FSX native, yet turn out to be FS9 port overs.
