Delete Unnecessary Aircraft?

As we all know that when you load a new theatre to CFS3 the existing aircraft in the Root CFS3 file are copied to the new Theatre. An example is the PTO Theatre.

Can you delete all of the unnecessary original aircraft from the folder?

That is say without wrecking the new PTO Theatre?

I was explained this years ago but a little refresher once and awhile keeps me in tune?

hi rcafmad,

sometimes the "unnecessary aircraft" have files that are shared with "necessary" aircraft. For example some sound files from german aircraft may be aliased to Japanese aircraft. So be a bit careful about what you delete.

In some cases the models and textures can be deleted, but the folder structure and sound files need to stay in the same places to ensure the sound.cfg aliases still work.

HTH,
and watch your six over the Festive Season!

Hi Mel,

As mentioned you need to be careful deleting some aircrfat folders as other aircraft may share items. in PTO all the stock CFS3 aircraft where not use by the addon directly have been set to spawn 'No" and had the airfiles set to AI only. This means that the planes should not appear as random items during missions or campaigns and they wont appear in the aircraft selection lists in quick combat etc.

so from a gaming point of view you shouldn't need to remove anything, but if your looking to save HD space, then as outlined above, delete files from inside the various aircraft folders but leave the sound files in tact.

hope that helps, regards Rob.
