DEM help, need your contacts

No Dice

Charter Member
I need help from the " Order of the Sims" and "Members of the round table".
I am half way through Sardinia , using gtopo30 dem files and have to switch from 20N90 to 20N40 files.
Problem is that they have a 1 minute gap between the 2 of them, meaning I have an entire texture between north and south that continues on thru the med sea and very southern italy. I am using ASD and official USGS downloads and have redownloaded data. North looks great, South works fine. What can I do with the strip in between?

Please ask all your friends for a solution, I hate to have wasted months on this, to get stopped by this stupid problem. Just take a look at the screen shots and you will see it's hard to believe that it's CFS1.

Any help will be much appreciated

Nice pics No Dice!

Unfortunately, when it comes to meshed scenery, the Barbarian is a woos:redf:...

Very pretty screenshots. I believe I see a CR 42 there someplace. I have no idea what you are asking for though.

Thanks for a least trying

Thanks everyone for at least looking to help. Ivan ,the USGS elevation files used for creating elevated mesh are off by about one minute, so the 2 land masses will not touch, they have a gap between them, well right thru the middle of the med sea , Sardinia , Italy ect. I am looking for an idea on how to fool ASD into thinking it found elevations.

Martin Wright gave me a few ideas that I will try out. I can only hope something works. It would be like you releasing a plane and asking people to ignore the fact that the tail is not connected.

I am still going to release the scenery upto that point sometime this month, now just working on some flyover eye candy. I know it's not as exciting as creating Planes and stuff like you and Guy but what the Hell, beats flying over flat oceans all day. ( I haven't counted yet but Ifigure from the Alps , northern and central Italy, Elba, Corsica and Northern Sardinia will bust over 40,000 hand layed mesh terrains, most of which are original textures)

What a hobby, we all must be nuts.

~S~ No Dice...just a shot in the dark, but try the FSGENESIS forum. Justin is the grand wizard of scenery building and may be able to point you in the right direction. He did a series of "Terrain Buffers"...which I believe is what you are trying to accomplish...It can't hurt to ask...

Perhaps this is a silly idea, but if the difference is 1 MOA, then the actual physical distance on this planet is about a mile. Why not just "Connect the Dots" between the two regions? I don't believe anyone would ever notice.

BTW, We aren't ALL Nuts, just the folks that build stuff are Nuts!

FWIW, I also have a couple good problems going with current projects but will describe them in another thread so that I won't hijack yours.

Thats the idea Ivan

BUT, how to connect the dots ?

BTW, the only people that hang with the "Order of the Sims" are people that create stuff, so YES we are all nuts.

I will look in your new thread for your situation and see if I may know someone that can help.

~S~....Knowing nothing relative to Scenery building, I did some research this morning. It would seem that your answer may lie in creating a merge of the 2 resolutions into a 3rd LOD (an averaging if you will)...as a buffer terrain DEM. The new dem is then inserted into the "hole". Here is a link to some of the info....

http://www.3dartist.com/3dao/r/allenbil/md/md4art.htm#intro

It is based upon the use of MicroDem (Freeware) for the merging.

It would seem that the use of various Photoshop filters would provide the finishing touches. There must be Scenery Builders in some of these forums who could talk you through. I hope that this may help.....MM

WOW, WOW, WOW

Minuteman, you are a wizard !!

Don't know how you found that but it's a wealth of information, my solution has got to be in there somewhere.
Looks like I have a lot of reading to do. I think you hit the nail right on the head. Now I just have to find the nail.

Thank you so much, That site and it's links offer something for everyone in this forum.

WOW
