Devils Tower update?

aeromed202

SOH-CM-2014
As the re-install continues I wondered if anyone tried to update this landmark? The only freeware one I know of that shows up is by Jorge Machado. He made a decent start but the base and LC surrounding it are pretty hopeless. I'd be up for a payware one but I don't think there is one.

Maybe this will be of use to ya... Take care.

Devils Tower Terrain Mesh (ver 2)
File Description:
This terrain mesh covers most of Crook County, Wyoming which contains Devils Tower National Monument. This terrain mesh was obtained from NED 1 arc second data and resampled to LOD10 resolution (38.2m). The area near the Devils Tower was obtained from NED 1/3 arc second data and resampled to LOD11 resolution (19.1m). The exact coverage is everything between W105* 7' 30" to W104* 0' 0" by N45* 0' 0" to N44* 15' 0". Devils Tower can be found by starting at Ipy Ranch (WY14) and traveling on a track of 194 degrees for 3 nautical miles. This version corrects a major positional error that was present in the first release and includes higher resolution data near the Devils Tower.

I use the Devil's Tower package recommended by Ed. I also use another package by the same guy for Chimney Rock. Both site looks pretty darn good....have never seen the real ones other than in pics, so can not really say how correct they look from the air in 3D.

That does help, then put Jorge's scenery on top of that to change the termite mound into something more like the real thing. Could still use some trees and the visitor center though. In reality is there a small airport nearby that does air tours?

Took a tour around the Tower a little while ago and the combo of Ed's mesh and Jorge's scenery works pretty well. Some trees on the mountain and the visitor's center would be a nice touch and there are other similar but smaller piles nearby that would've added to the scene, but my question is where's the alien "meet 'n greet" from "Close Encounters"?

The one thing I always wondered about that film is why when the Mother Ship shows up the team at the landing site weren't getting frantic calls from guys on the other side of the hill saying "HEY! THERE'S A GREAT BIG MOTHER EFFING SPACESHIP BACK HERE!!!" ;)

I'm hoping to be able to take a ride up to Chimney Rock this summer, but money may not allow it. I just wish there was this type of addon for Pilot Mountain or Hanging Rock Park. I've been to both (Pilot Mountain especially) and they never get old.

I hope I do get to head up to Chimney Rock, since Mason's shop is right on the way!

Ranch runway near DEVILs Tower

As your aware in FS2004 goto USA,Wyoming,Hulett, IPY Ranch (WY14) - this is just about 3 to 4 miles NNE of Devils Tower National Monument (it is visible from the runway!). May be a good place to start air tours from. Just add a office and a hanger and shuttle van and ya have a instant tour center. Take care.
