I gotta say, even though I'm frustrated with my FPS performance, it's still a great ride! My question is (grasping at straws), since my HD3850 is supposed to be great with DX10, should I upgrade to it? I'm running DX9.0c now and wonder:
1. If I upgrade will it not let me run games not designed on DX10, esp. OFF and CFS3?

2. If I do upgrade, could it possibly help my FPS?

3. If I do upgrade, can I uninstall and go back to 9.0c?

I wanted to ask the heads here before I started wading through the detritus on the internet. Thanks

You can run both Direct x9 & x10. However both must be installed. As far as the fps increase goes you should see some improvement, how much will depend on how good your CPU is. Having a low end CPU and a high en video card is about like putting a blower on a lawn mower.

Oh btw DX10 only works on Vista.

The 8800GTX was one of the first cards to support Directx 10. If it can be supported in XP, I'd sure like to know how it can be done!

Me too!!!

I run XP on an 8800 GT (which is DX10 ready) and tried the Alky Project DX10 hack and it botched my os. Had all kinds of errors and many games wouldn't run. I didn't want to try reinstalling FSX or any others so I just reverted back to DX9. Please share how to get XP 32 bit working properly with DX10... my searches have proved fruitless.

Why bother, there's bugger-all in DX10 worth the fuss. I've played a couple of games under both and "meh".
