disappearing menu bar

Has anybody else experienced this? Ill be flying along and eventually the menu bar disappears. I can press alt to get it to show up but I can't seem to access any of the menu items. I have to control-c to close the program after shutdown. And also is there a fix for it?

Almost from the start, my flights were in window mode so the top menu and bottom task bar are always showing. Saving them in that configuration has always kept the menus visible.
