Disneyland's Monsanto House of The Future

I was browsing.........and came across this article on the House of The Future

I had visited Disneyland in 1967 and toured the House of the Future...............I hadn't thought much about it untill I saw these picture. I must have just made the last of its life......

If you hadn't thought about it or....wondering what happened.............

At Disneyland, the House of the Future opened in 1957 on a prime site just off the Hub, adjacent to the Circarama theater. The House of the Future was one of two free attractions sponsored by Monsanto. The other was the Hall of Chemistry, which closed in 1966. After Monsanto’s Adventure Thru Inner Space opened in 1967, the House of the Future was doomed.

Legend has it that the planned one-day demolition of the House of Future ended up taking two weeks as the wrecking ball just bounced off the exterior. Workers painstakingly cut the house into pieces with hacksaws. After the House of the Future was removed, the house’s landscaping, waterfalls, and walkways remained. The area, named “Alpine Gardens,” became home to a souvenir stand.
 
I was really into that thing and each time I went to Disneyland, I would try to find it, never did. I guess it was already gone according to this.

Was that the where the GE house, along with Ronald and Nancy Reagan were featured? I remember seeing them.
 
Another 'house of the future' was the Dymaxion House designed by Buckminster Fuller. It's now on permanent display at The Henry Ford museum in Dearborn Michigan. Constructed of metal,...it is 1,000 sq. feet in area. Even though there were orders for it,...it never got off the ground for general production.
Kinda' cool looking,...somewhat resembles a squat, flying saucer.

Ronald Reagan.......General Electric Theater

No.....that was a different house


In 1954 Ronald Reagan recieved an offer to host a weekly dramatic program sponsored by General Electric called General Electric Theater. Ronald introduced each live episode, and starred in 4 of the episodes per year. Nancy appear occassionally with him in his episodes.

In 1955, General Electric helped the Reagans build a new home off San Onofre Drive in the Pacific Palisades California. It was billed as "The House of The Future," with the top of the line General Electric appliances and technologically advanced gadgets. In Return, the Reagans agreed to allow the house to be used in advertisements. This house was the Reagan's home for the next 25 years untill 1980 when Ronald Reagan took the office of the President of the United States.

That same year, 1980, construction was begun on the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.......which was operational in 1983.
 
The "Jiffy Pop" House

The "Dymaxion House" or the "Jiffy Pop" house as I have heard it refered too.........

was up there in notable design
 
...The Dymaxion House has that real 1930's 'art-deco' nostalgia look and feel to it. Well,...futuristic for 70 years ago,...but kinda' quaint lookin' for today. In fact,...I could see a modeled down one that would be serving Chicago style Vienna hot dogs someplace on the north side of the Windy City.
Please,............hold the ketchup but bring on the mustard......

If you didn't see the similiarity....................

It should be mentioned that Buckminster Fuller was also credited with the geodesic dome and the dymaxion car............which has be vaguely linked to and maybe influenced the airstream trailer.

Which.......

Has many similarities........to the Dymaxion House.

Yes........The Sears House.

Americana of Americana's

There was a PBS special just recently on the Sears house.

Alot of my relatives grew up in Sears houses.

Standard Oil created an entire city for workers at a plant made solely of Sears houses.

The entire house came by truck..........I mean everything. Concrete, nails, door knobs, doors, panels, shingles, paint.

All had one bathroom (entirely furnished in the Kit) one sink (stand alone) one toliet (crapper style with the tank suspended high) and one bath tub (no such thing as a shower).

No closet space.......since most people only had a couple of suite of clothing
