I wonder who among you goes to airshows?

I go to the Greek Air Force show from time to time and have also seen the Red Arrows when they have flown in the Athens area in Greece.

Last year, in May-June, I visited Sleap in Shropshire, UK, a small arifield and over two weekends I saw the activities of the Sleap aeroclub and many aircraft who flew in from various parts of Britain. Sleap is pronounced [slape] and not [sleep]...

The attached image is a painting of THIERRY DE GOROSTARZU. one of the official French Air Force painters. Google his name and you will see wonderful stuff--not only aircraft, but also beaches, interiors, Paris views etc....

I've gone to Airshows almost every year till about 5 years ago. My Dad is US Navy Retired so I've seen the Blue Angles every year since I was very young. I've seen the Canadian Snowbirds, US Airforce Thunderbirds. The French Display team and the British. In 1982 my Dad's Squadron VP-8 did a little Display for one of the shows.

So out of my 40 years I've been to atleast 30 years worth.

Sadly most of the bases are closed in the North east.

The last one I went too with my wife and Kids. They charged $30 a person to see the Thunderbirds. I about died when I saw that. We still went because my kids have never seen the Thunderbirds. It was 1985 the last time I saw them.

I'd love to go to one of the big ones out west.

Yes indeed, living where I do (CYXX) I get a local major one every year. Unfortunately it has been a bit repetitive these last few years. Best shows I ever attended variety-wise were the Mildenhall ones but they stopped long time ago sadly.
