Does anyone know how to read a combat report?

To those who know,

Looking at a FRANTIC combat mission, I see statements like this...

In an Operation FRANTIC mission, 75 of 78 B-17s hit Gdynia/Rahmel aircraft factories in Poland and procedes to bases in the USSR; they claim 0-2-2 aircraft; 23 B-17s are damaged. Escort is provided by 154 of 160 P-51s; they claim 7-2-3 aircraft; 4 P-51s are lost and 1 is damaged beyond repair; 1 pilot is KIA and 5 MIA.

Now...KIA and MIA I l know, but what do things like "7-2-3" mean? :isadizzy:

...."1 pilot is KIA and 5 MIA"...

Hmmm...i'm curious to know how they lost FIVE single-seat P51's (including the damaged write-off), but SIX pilots in the operation? One KIA and five MIA means all six went down in the fight, so that precludes the possibility of the sixth casualty dying of battle wounds after landing at base.

DISCUS WINS IT!

Rami; I believe that Discus hits it. If you read some other reports they specify 2-0-0, etc. LUFTWAFFE . It seems the AAR you are referring to left out "Luftwaffe" and infers the interpreter will fill in the blank word(s).
