I don't know how I let this get by but yesterday was the 70th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid on Japan. I didn't see "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" on TCM's lineup yesterday and was a little disappointed not to see it. Even 70 years on the courage displayed by the 80 fliers who made that raid is awe-inspiring. Dad was stationed in the Army in San Francisco when that happened and I remember him telling me once about how much anxiety it caused everyone on the West Coast; they were all convinced the entire Imperial Japanese Navy was going to steam over the horizon in retribution because of that raid. The news reports about Pearl Harbor had done their work well.
