Dornier 217 E series

I visited Beau Brummies site and got a hold of Teds Do217 package and I tried out one of the 217's he has. The question I have is there anyone with experience in flying this plane? I have to snake it just to take off on the runway. She flies alright , but its the takeoff run that scares me. Especially with all those tall trees in the game at the end of the runway! I know that she needs WEP to take off and I read the trim settings, but does anyone have any advice for me with this plane, you know General Information, Flying Characteristics, Missions to use it with, that sort of thing.

I love it when people say that!

Yes she's a B**** to take off. Ted provided a fix for some airfeilds to allow a longer run at it. Historically the Dornier was under powered and Ted's FM reflected this. In some of the misssions I couldn't use some of the bases.

I cant remember if there is some specific advise how to handle the DO 217, but in general you could try to set flaps one or two notches (25 degrees or so) and give full power with the brakes on, that usually saves a few meters run up distance.....

I remember a previous thread where a member with real flying time stated that he would lower his flaps near the end of the runway once he had his speed built up. I tried it and the tip works fine for me with the firepower Do217 carrying two fish.

The Dornier was a very difficult plane to get into the air. I modified several runways to give you the full length which in some cases is 400 extra meters. And with a fully loaded 217 coming in at 36000 lbs is well beyond what the designers had in mind. A Do 215 on steroids with a bit more power and slightly larger wing area can define the 217 fairly accurately. Even when Brown flew the 217M it was w/o ordanance and partial fuel he commented on the distinct underpowered feel of the airplane.

That being said some of the sim designers compromise on game flyability and accuracy. You folks know me I am about focused on accuracy as you can get. My not acheive it, but it is what frames my goals.
