FS2004/FSX Dornier 17Z-10 night fighter and Z-2 medium bomber. The Dornier Do 17, sometimes referred to as the Fliegender Bleistift (German: "flying pencil"), was a World War II German light bomber produced by Claudius Dornier's company, Dornier Flugzeugwerke. It was designed as a Schnellbomber ("fast bomber"), a light bomber which, in theory, would be so fast that it could outrun defending fighter aircraft. The last few production Do-17z were made as night fighters and equipped with Telefunken radar. You get both types. Original model by "Thicko", upgraded to FS2004/FSX by A.F. Scrub.[/SIZE]

I really enjoy Thicko's aircraft. They work well in FS9 and are models of aircraft I like to fly. Many thanks to Thickosehaskel (wherever he is) and to A.F.Scrub for the conversions to FS9/FSX. I appreciate Mr. Scrub's work in converting these CSF2 models. Making these models "forward compatible" is a great gift to the FS community.

Thicko has gifted us with a wonderful selection of aircraft. Made for CFS2, but they work wonderfully in FS9.....no conversion needed. May need some FDE tweaks and lights and effects added, but those are easy things to fix. I a lot of Thicko's CFS2 planes in my FS9 hangars and enjoy them a lot.

Good one, I had a DO-17 Airfix kit back in the day and thought it was a mean-looking bit of kit. My grandparents were about 10 during the war, living in Whitstable and Purfleet, and told me many a story of their memories of these bombers coming in from the sea, and up the Thames heading into London.

Hats off to any and all CFS2 converters, stirling and charitable work indeed. Which reminds me, I have William Renwick's CFS2 Beaufort to dust off for a proper FS9 revamp one of these days...

Steve,

What might be easier is to bring Alphasim's now freeware Beaufort up to standard. All it needs IMO are higher res VC textures and new VC gauges and it would be perfect. And perhaps a new prop blur for FSX.......... ;) It can be found on any of the major sites - Flightsim, Avsim and Simviation. Perhaps even in the SOH archive?

Well, the thing is, does the Alphasim version include gmax source files? The other thing is, William Renwick and I were in touch a while ago, and he kindly offered all of his CFS2 source files to me for upgrade. They really are a good starting point, and I am keen on that challenge. I've already broken them open, removed some of the older props and begun the conversion to FS9. The bulk of the work is going to be in a VC build and new 2D panelling. Hopefully by the time I really get into it, I will have a machine worthy of testing FSX on too, and can produce an FSX compatible version too.

No offence at all implied to Alpha, I just tend to favour the underdog as it were!
