double sonic boom

Reentering Endeavour Shuttle causes double sonic boom.
You may already know this but in case you don't the reason there are two sonics booms is one is from the nose and one from the tail. As the Shuttle is so large you get to hear them both, while with smaller aircraft they tend to blur into each other and sound as though there is only one.

Have you ever heard a sonic boom before? It sounds like someone squeezing the trigger of a shotgun an inch from your ear.

so there really is two sonic booms for planes but we just can hear them both because theyr'e too colse to each other

at wild cat, no I have never heard a sonic boom in real life before.

IIRC the first sound is the compression wave where as the second one is the expansion wave. I am sure if I am incorrect someone here will set me straight.
