I'm trying Chrome as an alternate browser, and discovered I could not download from AVSIM. This could be seen as a slight drawback to a flightsimmer...
So I emailed AVSIM and got this prompt reply:
GoogleChrome at its current release does not understand FTP therefore you will be unable to download from us or anywhere else where FTP is required (which is a lot of places on the Internet). I do not know why they've released their browser this way and there is nothing we can do about this - Google have to fix this issue themselves.
On a separate note the Safari Browser for Apple Mac also has a similar problem - I really do not know why they're releasing browsers that don't work with the Internet properly.
Sometimes in these situations, in GoogleChrome, when you click to refresh the page after an unsuccessful/failed download attempt the file may be downloaded.
By gum, it works after all!
Just wait for it to tell you it can't find the file, then refresh the browser.
