Dreadnought Racer_by A.F.Scrub

Been flying this since it was uploaded here and really enjoying it. Just thought I would show it in a revised repaint that I did to incorporate 4096x4096 textures and a slightly darker base color (gray). I haven't done any VC updates as I didn't see anything that I wanted to change or enhance. A Nice flyer!

I enjoy Scrubbie's Sea Fury T.20, but felt that relative to that, the Dreadnought didn't add the performance gain that I would expect, and the T.20 sounds are better also. Just wish he had fitted out the rear cockpit of either plane! If would be fun to fly from there if there were instruments and controls. Both are fun planes though, we owe Mr. Scrub a lot for continuing to put out these great subjects.

I did a few laps at Reno with it the other day. It did seem slower than I would have thought. Ed, the textures look great and hope you'll upload them please.

Awesome shot Bob! As far as performance, I agree based on what that engine should be able to do. I imagine the numbers could be enhanced in the cfg file to get something closer to what it should be but that's out of my league. I will upload the textures as soon as I finish a few tweaks.

I think FSX is determining the engine power here by displacement which according to the [piston engine] entry in the aircraft.cfg file is only 3271. Here's the original entry.

Thank you Josh! Will try it out this weekend. I noticed the wheels also and I can't remember if that was an FSX thing having to do with the tailhook and aircraft carriers. I'm probably wrong lol.

You're welcome! A note about the contact points, they also work with the standard two seater as well. (I don't have the single seater as I have Flying Stations' release of that but they'll probably work there too.)

I would also recommend finding an airspeed indicator from a freeware Hawker Hunter or DeHavilland Vampire/Venom. (I'll probably pull one from Dave Garwood's Hunter) The changes I made to the Dreadnought's engine file to make it a 4362.5ci (the actual displacement) max out the stock indicator pretty quick and I don't know the max speed. (I also did a climb test, got as fast as I could at 1800msl and pegged the VSI at 4000 fpm and kept climbing until the needle came off of the VSI's peg. Dreadnought made it past 10,000' while the stock two seater just made 7000'.
 
I don't know if it is relevant but over at Simviation there is a soundset for a Bristol Centaurus engine. I use it and personally think it is an improvement on the original sounds. Just search "Elmo."

You'd be hard put to beat the Bristol Centaurus soundset here in the SOH library, one of the works of art from the multi-talented and much-missed Nigel Richards.

That or Nigel's soundset is great for a stock unit. This one has an R-4360. I didn't like the way the A2A B377 sounded so I'm going to try aliasing to my AH C-119. (I wish there was an actual soundset for Dreadnought or Race 57. Either would work well here.)

Ironically there's a sound replacement set for the A2A Stratocruiser in the Library which actually uses sounds
recorded from Dreadnought, but then tweaked in a way which probably (possibly?) makes them not right for your needs.
