One of the greatest touring car series ever comes to GTR2:

The German Touring car championship (Deutsche touringcar meistershaft, DTM) of 1994 featured 480bhp four wheel driven Alfa Romeo's with a top speed of about 190 mph against the Opel Calibra DTM and the Mercedes C180 DTM (The last being RWD only). Alfa dominated the season (And the 1995 season too). In the back of the field some older BMW's, Mustangs and Mercs competed as well.

The first two parts of avideo compilation of the 1994 season, there are a lot more on Youtube :

It is really sad to look at the farce that the present day DTM has become.
I think (just me, myself) the DTM between 1990 and 1996 provided excellent 'Tin-Top' racing, despite the very liberal interpretation of the regulations.

Yes it did Wombat, until the organisers decied to turn it into the 'International Touringcar Championship' and go abroad. People there didn't know or care about Schneider, Asch, Nannini or Larini and they'd never seen an Alfa or an Opel.

Today series isn't bad but the cars are way to expensive; they should really take a look at the Japanese SGT500 series to see how it's done.

Had a quick look after a long F1 race; it's not bad at all!

Models and sounds are good, textures a bit cartoonish. The Alfa handles well; the four wheel drive lets you point the car in the right direction and just push the throttle to the floor without under- or oversteer, even on the slippery default Hockenheim. The brakes are almost F1 quality! The Merc C180 is a bit harder to drive with rear wheel drive only.

Did a few more laps with the different cars around some historic '94 tracks; can you name 'em? (2 shots of each track)

This Alfa is a real beast; will have to find a Nordschleife to try it there, as the DTM raced there in '94 too!

Out of order but I believe we have Norisring, the 'real' Hockenheim and (maybe?) Zolder.
In my (big) box of video tapes awaiting conversion to DVD I have several DTM Season reviews, including 1991 0r 1990 when Audi were defending champions.
The round at the old 'Ring was a cracker, and Audi withdrew shortly after when their flat crank engines were (quite rightly!) deemed illegal.........:173go1:
Not even close to the production V8, but it made a wonderful sound, rather like a Cosworth DFV on steroids!!!

You are correct on all three, Wombat!

Zolder was the first race of the season, and the only one outside Germany. The Nurburgring was used no less than three times (One at the old Nordschleife IIRC) and Hockenheim twice. Other tracks used are the Norisring, Avus Berlin, Diepholz and the Alemannenring. Haven't found either of the two last tracks for GTR2 so far.
