When flying a mission, when I'm at the front lines I have been flying to the smoke and artillery fire. But when I overfly the lines, the smoke is there but nothing else. No artillery, vehicles, men, nothing. Do I have something set wrong?:help:

Hi

What CFS3Config slider settings?

Scenery settings? Effects? The is a down side to moving sliders down of course.

Hi, KENTCOL
Old member TYPHOON wrote under his name: there is no stupid question but the one that isn't asked (or similar). Welcome! All will be sorted out, and you'll have fun - I'm sure!

At the risk of being slapped around a bit, I'll take a stab at it.
Lower slider settings can mean higher FPS, which makes everything work smoother. However: Higher slider settings make for more detail, but the FPS will suffer

SOLUTION : Use more computer, as it is I can't go higher than 4-3-3-4-1, I'm happy . . I'd better be, . . I can't afford more computer :kilroy:

kentcol, did you fly really low?

Put the labels (ctrl+shift+L) on or target awareness (shift+t) to see where targets are then go have a look very very low?

Also there are more during the actual offensives, major battles!

I was at about 500 ft. I flew toward the smoke and artillery fire and there was nothing on the ground at all. I have seen trucks and troops before on the roads.

You're living life dangerously, anytime you fly below 1500 feet, don't be too surprized when you see artillary barrages for no reason. The artillary spotters in 1917 were pilots. And Maps weren't the best either.

Everbody runs the clouds on 1 or 3, 2 is a waste. Check your FPS, but the computer power, you saved on clouds. You might be able to boost the effects to 5. :wavey:

I was only flying a quick flight to see the ground units. Wasn't really expecting to survive! But, there were none. Just wanted to see why nothing was there and if I had something in the workshop set wrong. I don't know.

Well, if it was the actual front lines, and not a rear area, the only guys you would see would be dead guys. Everybody else would be hiding as deep underground as they could get. 'Normal wastage' - that is - casualties when nothing was going on - ran at about 7000 per week in the British Army, nearly all of it due to artillery fire. The simple fact of the matter was, the front lines during daylight hours - seemed - absolutely deserted. If you showed yourself, you were dead. Anything in range of the artillery was a target; men, animals, and materiel moved only at night. The only time you would see activity in the lines was during an attack.

I think I have seen what he is talking about...creamy colored smoke plumes....but I always chalked it up to a gas attack. But I have seen "battle"-arty hits-at the same time, never just smoke.

Gas attacks, bombardments of trenches. Join up during a major offensive in your region and go look.

Join the RFC-56 and fly above Arras on April 1917. Or you can go see the battle of Somme on 1916.
