Dumping Stock AC

Worthless

SOH-CM-2025
I've just started an ETO install, and wondered if it was possible to exclude un-needed stock AC. Since I am unlikely to encounter a need for Japanese aircraft, can I delete them with the usual "can't find such and such in the library" and then it kicks you out of the game?

Worthless,

You will also need to delete the names of the deleted aircraft from a couple of text files CFS 2 uses.

Delete them from:

mdlnames.dat

qc_plane.qcb

Don't forget to at least leave the A6M2_Zero and perhaps the P38_Lightning plane folders in place with just the "Sound" folders inside. Many add on planes alias to these planes and not having them there will cause problems with the addon planes not showing up and having to manually edit their sound.cfg files to point to something else that has a similar engine.

Whenever I start a new install, I dump all the planes from the mdlnames.dat file. I'm not sure why MS put them there, as they call up whether they are in there or not. Same with the ships. I get rid of all of those too. In fact, for the ETO, you can dump all the IJN ships from your "Ships" folder and save some more space.

I use the Mission Builder in preference to the Quick Combat feature of CFS 2. That said, I replace my Quick Combat file with one that has no planes in it and thus I avoid any conflicts within the sim.

Next Question!

Ok, so now that I have culled out all the un-needed aircraft for my ETO install, what about all the airbases in the pacific. When I open MB, the default location is still the Solomons. Even after I delete all the PTO airbases from my "airbases.dat" file, and clean out the "opareas.dat" file. I must have missed something.

Is there a way to change the default location in MB and get the ETO operating area and airbases to show up without manually selecting the operating theater?

Worthless,

No. It's the blessing / curse of knowing where CFS2 has its roots; the Pacific Theater.

However, you can remove the Pacific bases by removing the allrunways.bgl from your SCENEDB\Runways\scenery folder.

You can also get a "empty" GSL file without the Pacific gobs by logging onto Lindsay's site and downloading his GSL tutorial.

Another short cut to Europe is to update your "Opareas.dat" file with op area coordinates just for Europe. That way when you make a new mission, you can select an area of Europe and CFS 2 will take you there for your next preview screen.

Try the one attached below. It'll get you into the vicinity that you want to go.

Update: Well, I can't get it to attach. Click on my signature below to go to my uploads and download the Mission Builder pack that I've got there. It'll have several files that will help you including the oparea.dat file.

Ok....thanks Rami, that answers that.

Thanks Jagd. I certainly already have your "cfs2_mb_mega_pack" in my download archive and will employ it. I'm starting my ETO with a clean install of CFS2 and I want to create a base install with all the general infrastructure objects and other adds that I've been accustomed to in my PTO installs. Anything I can do now to save going back over ground already covered will pay off later when I do MTO.

Great

This is turning into a very interesting thread. I have both made a SCW and a WW1 install, where it would be nice to be able to use, say the "Free flight" option for checking any new plane without having to do so in the Pacific. So please go into more details on how to get rid of the inborne (here useless) airfields and instead adding new ones. I have never been able to get rid of the stock planes before this thread was started - then I suddenly understood why the game demanded them, so thank you guys.
