Dunkirk question...

To all,

"Kenley Squadron" (The old "Hurricane Scramble" from Groundcrew) begins June 1st, 1940 over Dunkirk. I've surmised the weather that day was fair, but what aircraft were used over the beaches? I know that Hurricanes and Spitfires were there. What about any other types?

..........the Defiants had a field day .........'til the Luftwaffe figured them out (from a distance they looked like Hurricanes...........)

There were some Hudsons on patrol as well

Technically, I'm not positive but I always liked to slip in some battles, gladiators, Mk.1 blenheims & defiants.

Don't know if it helps, but "During the Dunkirk evacuation an Anson of No. 500 Squadron shot down two of three attacking Bf 109 fighters"

During the Dunkirk evacuation Swordfish were also used to attack German ground units and troops.

Talon,

That portion is already covered by the Swordfish campaign. Right now, I was leaning Hurricane, Spitfire, Defiant.

You mean you can't put in one battered swordfish valiently trying to avoid the flac, the 109's,and the ground fire to protect those guys on the beach? :d

Actually that particular anson was a very irregular flying arsenal, carrying a 20 mm gun in the nose and a handful of Vickers GO guns (hand held, no mounting) all "borrowed" somewhere.
