DX11...is it really that great?

My graphics card (ATI HD 5870) supposedly is capable of DX11, although I don't own any games that use it.

P3D, I hear, will use DX11 in the near future. Any comments on DX11? Is it that great?

at the mo its pretty pointless, it IS capable of some really cool stuff, but the no developers have really taken advantage of it. Also the game devs wont use anything other than DX9 (for the most part, some pc only use DX10) because thats what the consoles use.

The only game that I have that requires Dx11 is Crysis 3, but most have the option to switch between Dx9/10 and Dx11. And I think you need Win7 to use Dx11 (Could work with Vista too, not quite sure.).

So when P3D is updated with DX11 capability, will my graphics card automatically switch to DX11? I am confused how this would work? NC

Don't really know for sure, but maybe there will be a switch, like the 'Dx10 preview' in FsX?

If you have a Win7 system, you are already using Dx11 but it is fully backwards compatible with previous versions so you can still use older Dx8,9 or 10 programs without problems.
If you don't have Windows 7 you are limited to whatever version your operating system supports; Dx9 for XP, Dx10 for Vista.
