E14Y1 Glen released by Baldy!

Recently Dombral sparked my interest in an unusual but operational Japanese aircraft - the submarine launched spotter plane E14Y1 'Glen' - well, she's not finished yet but here are the first trials with MAS's I-19 submarine

where did you get the I400?

Hi dasuto

It's not an I-400 it's a B class I-19 available at the bottom of this page

cheers

baldy

I19 class B1 with a catapulte forward
I8 classJ3 with a catapulte back

Glen

Still more to do but I've done sufficient to be able to pass stuff to Uncle Tgt so he can do a real paintjob

baldy

.....on route to Wheeler Ridge and a small bit of history, maybe?

Looking very good there Baldy, many thanks, love a float plane/flying boat.

Cheers

Glen

Just received first draft of texture from Uncle Tgt - so after a few tweaks by me she'll soon be uploaded

Draft 2 pics - a little more rivet & panel line emphasis.

Scheme is derived from the schemes reported for the Kido Butai's E13A Jakes at Pearl. E14Ys overflew Pearl twice in the weeks following the operation for damage assessment.

Glen

Thanks Rami - I've got a big enough head as it is

anyway one added fun tweak -apparently the Glen had a vertical camera under or near pilot's seat - pan down in vc mode

some more progress with paint schemes

I-9 overflew Pearl Harbour in December '41. The red tail was probably overpainted by this time, but it made a nice change from overall yellow-grey.
I-21 overflew Sydney Harbour at the end of May 1942. No interception was made, but CAC Wirraway's were scrambled...

671-09 Later on the planes were relegated to coastal patrols off the Home Islands. This aircraft has the white square surrounds to the hinomarus common to aircraft based around the Home Islands (the period before the US Navy CVs came a calling).

]Do you have a scheme for the Glen that fire bombed the US mainland?
