Early Boeing B17C/D Flying Fortress for Fs9

Shessi

SOH-CM-2024
Hi Folks,
This is one of the other projects I'm messing around with, again trying to get the interests of the artists, project slayers and dabblers going! ;)

I got the Gmax source file from Jamie some time ago, with the intention of doing something with it. I can't believe (it's not butter...) there's still not an early B17 C/D out there?!! Anyhoo this is Gramps of FDG2 B17C/D. They did their donation-ware late models, but never finished or released this early model.

Finished porting it into FSDS from Gmax, and starting the tweaking, detailing etc, great model to start with...so hopefully will end up a half decent early B17 for the sims.

Cheers

Shessi

p.s For those of you that are not B17 spotters (lol), the only real differences between the two was that the D model had engine cooling gills, more armament and armour, so one model will do both.

That is very nice Shessi. Finally we will have the correct B-17s to fly in Bill Lyons Hawaii scenery!

I though Paul Clawson had done an early B-17, which he of course did. However this was the YB17...........

Cheers,
Huub

Excellent choice mate! I don't think anyone has done a B-17C/D lately. Looking forward to seeing you work your magic on this one.:applause::applause:

Great project!

This will fill the gap between Paul Clawson's YB-17 and the wartime variants.

Looking forward to it!

What a great choice for a new project! I'm looking forward to this as much as I was for your PBY's! :encouragement:

Alphasim did the B-17D for both CFS2 and FS2002. It has been released as freeware on the Virtavia/Alphasim freeware site. It works okay in my Golden Wings, except that the props don't show. Even has a VC!

I always wondered why Microsoft didn't make FS2004 reverse-compatible so FS2002 and CFS2 planes could be ported over without losing their props and sometimes their landing gear.

Hi TB,

It's not the sim, it's the prog that was used to make the ac mdl. The Alphasim B17D is a very early model, possibly one of their first, and was made using FSDS 1.6 with AA (Aircraft Animator), this is the cause of incompatibility...BUT fear not VE VILL have a good B17C/D, all singing and dancing, in Fs9 AND CFS2 (Dmaloof). ;)

So dust off your valves and crt's, and get ready to test it out! (not quite yet though..lol)

Cheers

Hi Shessi, interesting choice. If it is bit your strategy to balance between allied and axis airplanes, I think that is quiet well. And the early B17's will realy fill a gap Na, dann viel Mut und Gück - ich warte drauf. Yours Papi

Danke Papi,
I just like ac that are different and we don't have in the sims.

I've got admit that some of the software houses have missed big commercial opportunities to make money with some of their models...which surprises me! But gives us a chance to make them available for free.

Cheers

I'm very excited about this project Shessi. The B, C, and D are my favorite Forts.
Let me know if you need photos, docs, etc.

Best Regards,
John

Nearly there folks.....

A few more external tweaks, then the VC, LODs and tex...not much then..;)

Cheers
