Hey All,

In a foreshadowing of the dark days ahead when the outline of this aircraft would strike fear into the hearts of allied pilots Willy Messerschmitt has convinced young famous German aviatrix Elly Beinhorn to fly his newly designed and built BF-108 from Mildenhall to Melbourne. Designed as a sports and touring aircraft the 108 was the proving ground for many of the concepts incorporated into the famous WWII BF-109 Messerschmitt fighter.

And yes fellow competitors cowl mounted synchronized twin 7.92mm machine guns have been cleverly disguised as air intakes. Pretty young German girls don't compete against the likes of all of you in races like this unarmed you know. :bump:

Will be underway and on your 6 before long...

Hey Ed!!

Yep,,,,and I'll make it three.

First class theme for this undertaking...

Very well done Ed!

Headed S.E along the Persian Gulf ,,,all clear ,,,bring it on up!

Hey All,

Well lets see if this computer will handle all I've got running long enough - EGUN - LOWW rollin...

-Ed-

Hey All,

Down safe and sound LOWW. Navigating in Europe is pretty easy as you don't need to worry about the wind - just make sure NDBs are where you expect them to be. Still not as straight a route as I would like though.

Hey All,

Some Kodaks from the leg EGUN - LOWW.

1) Ready to roll
2) Taking off from EGUN
Note 1 and 2 are switched below...
3) Leaving the channel behind
4) Approach to LOWW
5) Parked and gonna go find some sausage for an early lunch

Pretty nice flight but toward the end of the flight I kept getting blown north of my intended route - good thing there are lots of NDBs to get me straightened out.

That was NASTY!

Hey All,

Down safe and partially sound at LRBS.

Started out a bluebird flight but southerly winds were really blowing me north of my intended route the whole way. Then the cloud/fog set in - thankfully I was high enough to clear the mountains - and then I had to go airport hunting in the fog. First airport I went to had two runways so I knew it wasn't right - spotted the right one over my shoulder and managed to land ok. A leg I had hoped would be fast ended up SLOW!

Kodaks

1) Leaving Vienna
2) Some river - didn't have time to figure out what one
3) Lake in the mountains
4) Approach to LRBS - unusual huh
5) Getting out to find beer - they have beer here don't they? :bump:
6) Route showing I went to the wrong airport first.

Was gonna go on to OSAP tonight but I think it'll wait till morning.

Hey All,

LRBS - OSAP

Concerned about this one as the Taifun doesn't have the longest of legs. In calm air the most this aircraft will do is about 800nm and that is leaned way out and goin slow so any headwind over this 711 nm leg and I may be in trouble.

I also may have a RL interrupt (several hours) that may force an abort. Don't know yet so gonna try getting underway anyway.

Hey All,

Thanks Willy but I made it.

Down and safe OSAP.

SSLLOOWW flight due to both fuel concerns and a headwind all the way. Because of that headwind - I wanted tailwinds on long legs of course - I had to "lean out" a bit more than I like but still had a little over 3 gallons left at the end. That headwind also quartered enough to tend to push me north of my intended line however the NDBs lined up nicely. Crossing the "Bull" mountains was a nonissue as I was pushed far enough north to get to cross at a low point in the range. Bluebird flight vis wise. On to Baghdad in a while I think. Kodaks as follows.

1) Leaving LRBS
2) Black Sea ahead
3) Turkey off the starboard bow
4) Some big city - Ankara I believe - in my rearview
5) Over the "Bull" mountains
6) Descending toward Aleppo
7) Turning to final
8) Parked - what do they drink here?

Forgot to get a kodak of my only view of the Mediterranean sea this trip.

-Ed-

Hey All,

Down safe and sound ORBS

Nice fast flight for a change. Can I get a taco around here somewhere?

Kodaks

1) Leaving Aleppo
2) Somewhere over the Syrian desert
3) About to cross the river
4) Parked next to one of the other competitors probably an organizer's plane

Great Plane

Hey Ed,

I've been slow to get around,,,,,that's a great looking plane. I had loaded it up for tests on an event I plan to host in the future. Comfortable too!

Looking good here man! All the best for the rest of the way into Melbourne.

Happy Trails,
