Good Day all,some missions when opened do not show up the opposing aircraft`s unit id`s and their coordinates that you come across in that mission while flying it,are they hidden some where?
Could someone please explain how this is achieved,and can they be uncovered.
alcanllen.
yes, alcanaleen, they are hidden - you can find them in the spawn set associated with the mission, AFAIK.
so take a look at a MAW Historical mission as an example -
<Facility ID="9283" Type="mission_target_facility_7k" Lat="N36*8'52.9792"" Lon="E15*5'20.2872"" heading="0" Country="Britain" IsHidden="y" Spawns="swdfsh_recon_medsea_41.spawns" IsOneShot="y"/>
The opposing aircraft and ID's do not show up in the mission file at all. But hidden further down the mission file, under the facilities section, is a file "mission_target_facility_7k". If you look in the Facilities folder, you can find where this target facility file resides. It triggers a spawn set when you are 7km away from the waypoint.
The spawns triggered are "swdfsh_recon_medsea_41.spawns", and when you go to the Spawn table file, you will find the details you are looking for.
I really like this approach - you can get so much more variation when you are flying the same mission several times. There may be four or more air formation variations which you can encounter.
(now gets on his hobby-horse) - I would personally prefer to see even more variability by using randomised aircraft called for in the spawn file - but then I guess the mission should be in the Whatif section, not the Historical section. What I mean is that #fighters or #bombers could be used but you need a good set of aircraft with entered service dates available for the time the mission is set. and you don't necessarily want Fi_156s or Hs_129s turning up as fighters - a bit of a damp squib
