ERA folders in ETO?

Just downloaded the 'stuka' and 'Pene17-aug43' missions and both direct you to place them into the
ERA 3 folder. My CFS3 ETO EXP file contains NO "ERA" folders. It does have folders: 'missions', 'bob missions', '43 missions', '44 missions' and '45 missions'. Are these the corresponding 'ERA' folders? Sorry for the basic (short for dumb) question. Thanks

Hi

It says

"Just pop into era 3 folder of your choice..."

What this means is you can copy it to any folder within the in the missions folder for era three. To do this you must run the game in era three first. Just launch it do a quick fly then exit. This will set the mission folder to era three. Now open the "mission" folder in ETO and copy the file to one of the folders there. Try the "what if" folder. Fire up the game in era three go to missions and look in the "what if" section. It should be there

Hope this helps

Erm... I am pretty sure that what this means. Feel free to correct if I am wrong...

thanks but

this seems pretty complex just to add a mission. i am no expert so i will defer to you but then why are there those other 5 'missionn folders' i mention above?? i just don't want to mess up the whole install because it was not easy for me to do. (dumb again).

:kilroy:Wichner, for the record, here's the proper procedure for installing anything into ETO:

Rule #1. Start ETO in Era 1 and then exit the game before installing anything. Place the necessary items into the proper folders.

Example: when in Era 1, the mission folders' names are missions (Era 1), bob_missions (Era 2), 1943_missions (Era 3), 1944_missions (Era 4), and 1945_missions (Era 5). Each of these folders has three folders and two separate files inside it. Three three folders' names are historical, training, and whatif.

You will also notice while looking into the ETO main folder (while in Era 1) that a number of folders and individual files look very similar. In addition to the missions folders described above, there are also five each of the following: uires folders (uires, bob_uires, 1943_uires, 1944_uires, and 1945_uires), qclocations.xml's (qclocations.xml, bob_qclocations.xml, 1943_qclocations.xml, 1944_qclocations.xml, and 1945_qclocations.xml), and five splash24b.bmp files (splash24b.bmp, bob_splash24b.bmp, 1943_splash24b.bmp, 1944_splash24b.bmp, and 1945_splash24b.bmp). In addition, there are also five complete global layer sets in the global_layer folder.

When you start ETO the Era Swapper comes up (the little black screen with the white letters). Each Era is numbered, of course. When you type in the chosen number and then press Enter and another key, the Eras will be "swapped". The folders and files noted above will have their names changed to reflect the Era to which ETO is currently set. Example: for Era 3, all of these folders and files which had previously been named "1943_XXXXX" will now be plain (missions, uires, qclocations, etc.). Those that had been plain in Era 1 will now be named "1936_XXXXX". Choosing Era 1 at start again will change them all back again. This is the way it works for all five Eras.

I hope this helps.:d

Hey grizz thanks for putting this in more detail. I wasn't sure how to explain it more and that sure covers every thing.:applause:

So long story short, if he downloads an era 3 mission then he needs to fire up the game and run it in era three then close it. That will set the folders to era three. After that he can then copy the mission file into the missions folder of choice. IE: what if or historical.

This is how I have been doing it any way and it works for me:ernae:

Thanks
