ETO installation Guide Question

Hello,
The guide suggest to delete some files after first actions to install ETO, I do not understand why these files must be deleted.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

:kilroy:Emile, that's assuming you have copied your original CFS3 that was modded, and used the MW multicfs3.exe to rename it for directory purposes.

Just make sure to rename the new copy of the old CFS3 main game folder in Program Files\Microsoft Games to match the name you used in the multicfs3.exe.

Then delete those three folders named in the *.pdf file.

Then run the newly-renamed install, reset all of your game settings, if need be, and then shut it down.

Now you can safely install CFS3 again in preparation for ETO installation.:d

Hi,
In fact I have a "initial copy" of CFS3 after installation in a separate folder (backup) . I created a new folder (CFS3 ETO), made a copy of the initial backup in the CFS3 ETO folder, I ran the "multicfs3.exe" in this CFS3 ETO .
I now have the Back up CFS3 , the CFS3 that I use to fly CFS3 (and it works I have tested it) and it is modified (aircrafts, guns, ...) AND the CFS3 ETO folder.

Do I still need to delete these files? I have the intention to install ETO on the CFS3 ETO folder.

Sorry for these questions and thanks for your help.

Hello Emile,

I'm sorry if this wasn't clear enough in the Guide. The process is:-

  1. If you have already added extra aircraft, missions, etc to your existing CFS3 installation and want to keep them, then copy that installation and use MultiCFS3.exe to make that copy work independently of any other.
  2. Make sure the copy works correctly.
  3. Then delete the folders as described and install a fresh copy of CFS3, run it and patch to 3.1, then run it again and patch to 3.1a. This is the installation of CFS3 - with no extras - you will use to install ETO.
So if the folder "CFS3 ETO" you're talking about is a working CFS3.1a with no add-ons, then you can use that to install ETO.
Make sure you set the correct directory paths during installation. You will also have to edit the ETO batch files as described and set the correct paths in the Mission Builder before running ETO.

Because not installing CFS3 to its default location complicates things like this, I always recommend the defaults unless you have a really good reason not to use them.

Good luck, and yell if you have problems.
