So let me get this right. The parachute is the outer garment. The aviator, bailed, drifted down to warmer temps, became too hot, removed his parachute, removed his cold gear, re-attached his parachute and drifted down to safety and had a pint at the local pub

No, no, no! Rich is partly on it: it's perishing cold high up and the whitish finish when he gets to ground level is frost forming on his chilled outer garments. :icon_lol:
 
I suspect that the 'real' reason :icon_lol: is that the figure who bails is a stock one whereas the one who lands is an animation file based on your choice of pilot. You would need to find the texture for the first pilot and modify that to make them look the same but that would then be wrong for the others.
