Ah Life is good again...Having this rig fixed and running FSX like it should is great....

Just finished a short flight checking out my new cloud theme......

Hmmm The first one looks dark...Sorry...It looked better here ...LOL

It was a nice quiet flight limjack all alone ...:applause:

I love night flying... Its always great when you have a plane that has a panel designed for night flying as well. Nothing like dim instrumentation lights, no dome light, cruising along....

I did alot of actual night flying with a friend that flew cargo runs at night to Orange County. We would play the radio, trying to find good stations in California. (Back then, Cal had all the cool music that was new to come out, and some wild beach music and imports, like 'We're going Japanesah'. Good fun... )

Flying in a full moon was the best as you could see everything. Like being on another world with a dimly lit star.....

well you started it H - and may I say I am very happy that you finally have your rig dialed in and can run FSX in good order.. :ernae:

I did a quick flight tonight, to get some screens of a friends hometown and because of this thread I had to switch it over to evening at one point just for the hell of it. :)

thats a beauty :ernae:

one of the things that I'm really impressed with and I don't see it get much discussion at all - is the recent GEX update(s) and its improved night terrain and autogen building lighting - Nick and the GEX crew have really worked to make FSX look better at night, in addition to their already well talked about enhancement of FSX daylight visuals...

Tip o' the cap to them fellers fer some good work.

You said alot there... I have just had the GEX update installed for like 3 days now and have been noticing the all new enhanced ground textures...Night lighting too is superb....

And it is wonderful to have it all going again......:applause:

I remember crossing the Arizona desert in a car with my family when I was a kid - and the night sky was so rediculously bright...no moon yet, it rose up later and no glowing city lights either...but the brightness was from the stars alone.

I was used to the lights of a big city and only the brightest stars shining through...seeing it clearly for the first time was nearly overwhelming as we got out of the car to get a better view. I can still see myself standing there by the side of the road with my head tilted all the way back - a six year old kid...just trying to reel it all in.

years later I flew a few times with a buddy in a Cherokee from Montgomery Field to Havasu and back, and it was like deja vu all over again.

Cool story Heywood!

Yep.... It can really get bright up north. Phoenix has alot of smog these days, but man, you drive a ways out into the desert or up into the mountains and man, those stars are bright!

I loved road trips as a kid driving at night. I am sure thats why I like night flying so much...

yeah its definitely got that otherworldly feel to it - especially with a fair moon and any amount of low cumulus clouds in the area.. A-mazing :ernae:

Does anyone know of any addons that do something to the stars? One thing I noticed while zipping around in the dark is that although the stars are indeed up there, they could stand to be a good deal brighter. Surely there must be some third party package that address this?

Nice shots Guzler......Love the sky colors..

Do you ever get out of that ultra-light? :d

search avsim and flightsim for 'autostarx'

it has several features including adding comets, brightening the stars, and also a feature that connects the stars of the constellations (its not a realistic effect to see a series of bright geen lines in the night sky depicting Orion or Taurus etc...but it is interesting) together....

you can individually set each feature and its not too hard to do - just follow the readme and be SURE to back up your -stars.dat- file in the effects folder first.

LOL, I use it alot because anything faster causes blurries ! Plus that is where I have racked most of my hours up in the past too. Just installed the minimax last night, and having spent the weekend modifying Kotroni airfield in greece (all new stuff to me), it was great pottering round at 40kts looking at the eye candy.

In fs9, loved to fly the hunter and the f-16 alot sweeping through the vallies at 400kts.

The Blenheim by AS gets used alot too. still getting to grips with keeping that big radial from smoking on the WOP3 p-47, but see that being used more too.
