Every once in a while a little strike o'luck does not hurt.....

A good day to everybody!

I mentioned earlier I had lost the memory card of my digital camera in a restaurant in Brescia, quite away from where I live, at the end of August, while celebrating me sweetie birthday with a whole bunch of good friends.

On that 4Gb wee card were stored all pictures I took since she presented me with a Nikon Coolpix for my birthday back in March. Since small digital cameras feature limited internal RAM, an additional SDHC storage card is a must and their price here really dropped in the last few months. I just bought an extra backup one for 9.90 Euros.

On that first card there were some nice pics I took on Aug. 19th at the Air & Space Museum at the historical Le Bourget airport in Paris, where the International Aeronautcs Expo is also held every spring. Le Bourget is the airport where Charles Lindberg landed after his first Atlantic crossing solo flight. It still features 1920's-1930's style airport buildings and it's very, very nice to visit.

I had meant to upload all the pictures I took in the Museum engine and Warbird section here at SOH, but the storage card was gone.

Not so. :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump:

I was slowly resignign to such loss, but a few days ago one of the friends who attended that dinner showed up with the little cloth pouch I used to keep both camera and storage card together. Foolishly, and I admit a wee happy on good wine for the several happy-birthday toasts we all did, I had put the camera in my shirt pocket and laid the pouch down somewhere without paying attention to it.

He lives in Brescia, he went back to that restaurant a few times until he could talk to the waiters who were on duty that Saturday night. They had found it laying on the chair I was sitting on and took it to the cashier, who, in turn, locked it up in the restaurant safe. Until those specific waiters could be talked to, no one among the rest of the restaurant staff could remember the episode and the cashier had completely forgotten about it.

As soon as I load the pictures in my pc and reduce them to the correct size, I'll happily upload them here for your enjoyment, as I had originally intended.

Boy, how happy I am! :engel016:

Cheers!

Kinda' restores your faith in human nature, don't it, Ole' Buddy? It's really nice to know that there are still some really decent follks out there (besides those who haunt this basement).

I'm extremely happy for you because that which was lost has been found!:kilroy:

Wow...thats good news for you Kelti, and a good friend to go back for you so often. :icon29:

KH, if I ever make it to Brescia I'll eat at that restaurant. :d Nice to know there are still some honest folks in the world. :medals:

TARPSBird,

I really wish you can do it! The place is extremely nice, buried among tall trees, it's a restored XVIIth century villa turned into a restaurant and pizza place with an entrance covered with jasmine bushes which reach the roof.

Although the appearance might scare a bit, the first time there I had though I was going to lay down half of my monthly salary for my meal, they are very affordable and their food is grand.

With a vast choice of great wines and fine beers to boot!

The name of the place is "La Cantinaccia", roughly translatable as "The Badly Kept, Dirty Wine Cellar", a funny joke done on purpose when one sees the great looks of the place. There's a huge fireplace, with a restored original carved oak mantle where I can stand up inside of it!

Tomorrow I can even provide you with their phone number, they probably have a website too.

I reccomend it with no exceptions whatsoever, expecially if someone leaves something behind! :d

As to their honesty, I must admit I was pleseantly surprised as well.....

Cheers!

Great to hear of your good fortune Stef, and I look forward to seeing those pics. No doubt about it, good friends are so important, and they also tell you something about yourself.
This bit of news is particularly relevent to me right now. My wife has decided that it is possible to organise a disability-friendly holiday in Italy around May year after next. It took a while for her to convince me , but now I'm as enthusiastic as she is. So tell me, does "La Cantinaccia" have any steps? Your description of it sounds a lot like "Cesarina" in Roma, and I remember that as one of the best restaurant experiences anywhere.

There you go, folks!

This is the link for "La Cantinaccia" website, also translated in English:

www.cantinaccia.it

The home page features a nice picture of the front yard, and I made a mistake: it was built in the 18th century.

I am almost ready to upload the pictures I took at Le Bourget airport museum.

Cheers!
