Reporting Augmented

The Committee asks that you expand the numbers that you report when you post your legs. (This is a safety measure: we might lose your Duenna textfiles before doing all the official accounting. BTW, please don't erase those files off your hard disk right away.)

As you go along, please post the following:

Takeoff

Takeoff Weight: your loaded Gross Weight on the MSFS fuel/payload screen
Declared Payload: your loaded Payload weight on the MSFS fuel/payload screen

Note.
-These two numbers come from your setup before starting the Duenna. The official takeoff weight as reported by the Duenna may be slightly lower due to fuel use during taxi and run-up before the actual takeoff. You must meet the Maximum Takeoff Weight restriction in your initial loading and the Duenna, not just the Duenna.

Landing

Landing Weight: Duenna report
Fuel Used: Duenna reported weight loss shown in parentheses
Flight Time: Duenna reported Flight Time (not Baton time)

and, of course,

Duenna jpg picture: shows the route map and summary information
Duenna textfile: contains the critical information for scoring

Penalties: any known penalties that you've incurred

Notes.
-None of this reporting requires calculations on your part. You need only copy the figures from the Duenna textfile. As you might know, it is possible for "other pilots" as well as the official scorers to make transcription errors. We'll be using the digital Duenna textfile as the official standard—but will double check against your numbers. And it is important to have a written report on the forum to guard against the loss of the files.
-The penalty report is a courtesy. The official score will depend on the Committee's judgment.

The Decision:

On the fuel problem:

No penalty. Short leg with no real need for additional fuel. Explanation accepted and close approximation is ok. "Don't make a practice of it, Captain."

On inadvertent landing at the wrong airport in same city (Orly):

No Penalty. The rules clearly state "Pilots may land at any paved airport in Canada, the United States and Europe"

Moses still needs to deliver his passengers to Le Bourget (LFPB) before proceeding.

The idea on rulings and penalties is (a) to maintain a sense of fairness, (b) to avoid guys having to re-fly legs, and (c) to keep it fun for all concerned. This is not an especially competitive event (such as the RTWR), so we'll try to do the right thing to keep things on the light side.
 
Slight Rules Change – Australia Routing

This Rules Change corrects an oversight. We now include both Asuncion (SGAS) and Montevideo (SUMA) as "Additional Commercial Centers" for the Australia – Buenos Aires Route.

Importantly, this allows an "error correction" for pilots who have mistakenly forgotten to hit the mandated number of Commercial Centers.

Note that pilots who miss a Required Commercial Center or the appropriate Total Commercial Centers may land at Buenos Aires but they are simply ineligible for a "win". Of course, such pilots may return to pick up that requirement—but may not find that task worth their while. We shall count the effort in the standings—but obviously the score will not be comparable.
 
NOTAM. Counting Commercial Centers.

Please be sure that you calculate your number of Commercial Centers correctly.

For each Routing, you have a set of Required Commercial Centers at which you must
stop. And there is a set of Additional Commercial Centers from which you must chose more stops.

  • Australia pilots need a total of 8 stops at 6 Required Centers and 2 more from a set of (now) 6 Additional Centers.
  • North America pilots need a total of 11 stops at 7 Required Centers and 4 more from a set of 10 Additional Centers.
  • Europe pilots need a total of 11 Commercial Centers of which 6 are Required and 5 more from a list of 8 Additional Centers.

Understand that stops at the "Other Available Airports" do not count as Commercial Centers. Nor do the Departing and Destination Airports count.

I do not find SUMA Montevideo in South America.

I find KMVE Montevideo(City) Montevideo-Chippewa County in Minnesota
 
I think that was supposed to be SUMU, which was available to the other two routes as "additional commercial centers", but not to us Pacific World Travelers. But now it is (they are).
 
On his Transatlantic trip, Moses missed SBRF and ended up in an emergency landing at SBAR. This unauthorized landing airport incurs a penalty of one hour.

Moses raised the question of whether he had to return to SBRF before proceeding. The Committee rules that no advantage was gained in the emergency landing beyond that already compensated for in the one hour penalty. No further action is required.

Ruling. 6-23-09.

salt_air reports that he inadvertently and momentarily added fuel while trying to dump it through the L-049 tank management system. The Duenna immediately flagged this event as an error. (You may not add fuel during a flight.) The pilot reports that, through the sequence of switching, he actually reduced fuel just prior to landing--rather than add it. The "flight recorder" confirms the event as reported.

No penalty assessed. The pilot may continue from Lima.

Note. We hear reports from Miami of an unofficial reprimand from President Eddie Rickenbacker of Eastern Air Lines. Pilot cited for poor fuel management.
