F-86 VC Lighting??

Ok....reviewed all manuals...checked all posts.....cannot seem to get ANY lighting in the VC. All other lights work ok. The switch in the lower right panel moves when clicked, but no joy. Anyone have any ideas?

I think felix is saying that, like me, he can find and move the switch, but the VC does not light up anyway.

Yes that is exactly what I am saying...I use track IR, so seeing the rotating dial switch on the right side of the VC is no problem. Does absolutely nothing when switched on. Cockpit tooltips confirms it is in the 'on' position. Ironically, when in the VC, as the switch is toggled, one of the exterior light switches towards the right-front turns on and off as well. I believe it is the nav light switch (just right of the landing light switch). And, conversely, when that switch is flipped, the dial switch on the right rear turns on and off. I assume that they are connected? Hopefully someone can help as I love flying this plane and would like to ensure full functionality. Thanks.

Well it seems as though they work in the 2D when the switch is toggled on and off in the VC which I confirmed with a quick check. But still nothing in the VC. I am totally stumped. :banghead::isadizzy:

The vc light co-ordinates are perhaps wrong. Try the Views eyepoint co-ordinates for a starter then move down and forward. The eyepoint should at least give some light on the panel in vc.
Here's an example of the co-ordinates from another aircraft...

[LIGHTS] //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=taxi, 7=recog, 8=wing, 9=logo,
// class long lat vert effect
light.0=3, 4.73, -9.4, -3.2, fx_xfire
light.1=3, 4.73, 9.4, -3.2, fx_xfire

[Views]
eyepoint= -12.1, -1.4, 2.12 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum

Thank you much Roger..But I figured it out. It turns out that I am missing the fx_vclight default file used by the Sabre. I went into the config and then into my effects folder and lo and behold, it was gone. Managed to trace it to my Shockwave lights install. Apparently, the Shockwave install removes (or re-names-not sure) the stock vc_light effect. I cross checked it with the default Baron (modified by the Shockwave lights install) and sure enough, it was changed to fx_shockwave_vclight_fx.....copied and pasted to the Sabre folder and BINGO!!!!!!!! Beautiful VC lighting!!! Took me a lot longer than it should have to trace it to the Shockwave lights....hope this helps other Sabre pilots also using the Shockwave lights.

You sir, are a genius! I found a nice deep red light file for my VC, and now I can enjoy this tremendous gift even at night! :ernae:

As a footnote, I don't have the shockwave lights, but still didn't have the standard file for some reason.

Glad to be of help, Teeps! Doesn't usually take me much to dig in and troubleshoot something like this, but this F-86 is worth it :ernae: and I wasn't about to let that ruin my day!

Those shockwave lights are payware aren't they...

Ah well, maybe I'll bite after seeing that!

At any rate, thanks for the answer!

Yes they are payware, but very good! Just be cautious when you install them and be sure to read all documentation. I've become somewhat proficient in their use, but it took a lot of trial and eror (not to mention great forum support). Highly recommended.

If you need to reinstall the original fx_vclight:
  1. Insert CD #1 then exit the installer.
  2. Open My Computer, right-click the FS9 CD drive and choose Explore.
  3. Double-click MSGAME1.cab.
  4. Hit Ctrl+F and search for the effect filename.
  5. Drag the file directly into your FS9 Effects folder.
Done.

I copied all 9 MSGAME cabs, along with the SCENERY folder with its cabs from the four CD's. I keep them, along with a PDF with all file locations within those cabs on a seperate drive. It's made restoring factory files quite convenient more than once!
